Complex yet lethal wounds with uncontrollable bleeding hinder conventional hemostats from clotting blood at the source or deep sites of injury vasculature, thereby causing massive blood loss and significantly increased mortality. Inspired by the attack action of torpedoes, we synthesized microcluster (MC) colloidosomes equipped with magnetic-mediated navigation and "blast" systems to deliver hemostats into the cavity of vase-type wounds. CaCO/FeO (CF) microparticles functionalized with Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) modified polyelectrolyte multilayers were co-assembled with oppositely charged zwitterionic carbon dots (CDs) to form MC colloidosomes, which were loaded with thrombin and protonated tranexamic acid (TXA-NH ).

Analysis of corneal tissue natural frequency was recently proposed as a biomarker for corneal biomechanics and has been performed using high-resolution optical coherence tomography (OCT)-based elastography (OCE). However, it remains unknown whether natural frequency analysis can resolve local variations in tissue structure. We measured heterogeneous samples to evaluate the correspondence between natural frequency distributions and regional structural variations.

During application, energetic materials may suffer different temperature environmental stimulation. In order to study the influence of temperature environmental on performance of HNIW/FOX-7 based PBXs, HNIW/FOX-7 based PBX modeling powders and PBX columns were treated by LT (low temperature), HT (high temperature), HLC (high-low temperature cycle) and HLS (high-low temperature shock). Then scanning electron microscope (SEM), infrared spectra (IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to study the variation of PBX modeling powders after LT, HT, HLC and HLS treatments; in addition, the mass, size and mechanical properties of PBX columns were characterized after different temperature adaptability treatments as well.

Article Synopsis
  • A study tested optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) against traditional capillaroscopy for imaging nailfold microcirculation, which helps diagnose diseases like systemic sclerosis.
  • OCTA provided high-resolution images of the microvasculature, detecting changes under arm compression that capillaroscopy did not, showcasing its potential superiority.
  • Although both methods yielded similar capillary density measurements, OCTA showed significantly larger capillary diameters compared to capillaroscopy, indicating that OCTA could offer more detailed insights into microvascular health.

Based on the best dehydration effect, this study compared the adsorption phosphorus effect of sludge biochar after sludge conditioning with FeCl, KMnO, and cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM). This provided insights into the effects of chemical conditioning during the sludge dewatering stage on the overall phosphate adsorption of the dewatered sludge biochar. The phosphorus adsorption mechanism of the dewatering sludge biochar was analysed by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy.

The reactive iodine species may exhibit significant impacts on many global atmospheric issues and the I/I radicals play key roles for inducing the formation of these reactive iodine species. However, the current understanding on the formation of I/I radicals in atmospheric aqueous aerosol is still quite limited. The results reported herein suggest that I/I can be produced simultaneously in aqueous aerosol by several sunlight-driven photochemical pathways including direct photo-dissociation of soluble organic iodine (SOI) at rates of 0.

Polyzwitterionic hydrogels as skin wound dressings have been extensively studied owing to their superior antibacterial properties and skin adhesiveness, but their practical applications still suffer from a low adhesion strength and a high swelling ratio, which hinder the application of hydrogel for cutaneous healing. Here, we developed a novel biocompatible poly[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide (PolySBMA) composite hydrogel with high stretchability, low swelling, strong skin adhesiveness, and antibacterial effect for enhancing wound healing. Naturally rigid polymers including quaternized chitosan methacrylate (QCSMA) and gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) are used as bioactive cross-linkers to endow PolySBMA/QCSMA/GelMA (SQG) hydrogel with a low swelling ratio and high bioactivity.

The aggregation of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides into oligomers and fibrils is a key pathological feature of Alzheimer's disease (AD). An increasing amount of evidence suggests that oligomeric Aβ might be the major culprit responsible for various neuropathological changes in AD. Death-associated protein kinase 1 (DAPK1) is abnormally elevated in brains of AD patients and plays an important role in modulating tau homeostasis by regulating prolyl isomerase Pin1 phosphorylation.
