Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH)4 is one of the most threatening neurological complications associated with preterm birth which can lead to long-term sequela such as cerebral palsy. Early recognition of IVH risk may prevent its occurrence and/or reduce its severity. Using multivariate logistic regression analysis, risk factors significantly associated with IVH were identified and integrated into risk scales.

If pregnancy is conceived, it is considered high-risk due to several potential complications, but the correlation between pre-pregnancy androgen levels and obstetric outcomes is poorly characterized.
Objective: To determine if pre-pregnancy serum androgen concentrations and androgen indexes differed when certain obstetric and neonatal outcomes appeared in PCOS.
Infertility affects an estimated 40-50% of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the leading cause of anovulatory infertility, but only a small proportion of the patients require in vitro fertilization (IVF) therapy. Both PCOS and IVF are associated with an increased risk of obstetric complications. To compare preconception endocrine profiles and symptoms, as well as obstetric outcomes of PCOS patients who achieved successful pregnancies with and without IVF treatment.

Due to their immaturity preterm born neonates are dependent on particularly careful physical and neurological diagnostic methods. Ideally, these should be noninvasive, noncontact, and radiation free.

The cuticular surface serves as a barrier and first point of contact with their microbial environments. In this study, we identify microbes from natural habitats that associate with its cuticle, constituting a simple "skin microbiome.

Data on the morphology and anatomical structures of the spine are therefore of interest to orthopaedics, physicians, and medical scientists alike, in the broad field from diagnosis to therapy and in research.
Methods: Along the course of developing supplementary methods that do not require the use of ionizing radiation in the assessment of scoliosis, twenty CT scans from females and males with various severity of spinal deformations and body shape have been analysed with respect to the transverse distances between the vertebral body and the spinous process end tip and the skin, respectively, at thoracic and lumbar vertebral levels.
CD8 T cells play a role in the suppression of tumor growth and immunotherapy. Ion channels control the Ca-dependent function of CD8 lymphocytes such as cytokine/granzyme production and tumor killing. Kv1.

Increased acidification is hypothesized to reduce iron bioavailability for phytoplankton thereby expanding iron limitation and impacting primary production. Here we show from community to molecular levels that phytoplankton in an upwelling region respond to short-term acidification exposure with iron uptake pathways and strategies that reduce cellular iron demand.

Our objective was to assess the impact of advanced-stage epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and cytoreductive surgery on the phagocytic function of peripheral monocytes and neutrophil granulocytes. We aimed to compare the pre- and postoperative phagocytic function of these immune cells in EOC patients with healthy control women.

Our aim was to investigate the prognostic value of preoperative laboratory parameters for the outcome of PDS. (2) We analyzed the preoperative laboratory parameters of 150 serous EOC patients who underwent PDS between 2006 and 2013.

Computed tomography (CT) confirmed cervical intervertebral disk extrusion at C5-6 extending to C6-7, and an emergency ventral slot was performed. After the procedure, the patient was placed on mechanical ventilation due to respiratory failure.

Virtually every standard clinical instrument used in dysarthria diagnostics includes nonspeech parameters, often in considerable numbers. While theoretical considerations have challenged the validity of these measures as markers of speech impairment, only a few studies have directly examined their relationship to speech parameters on a broader scale.

Regular clinical monitoring is recommended in particular at young age, because of the high risk of progression during periods of rapid growth. Supplementary methods free of ionizing radiation thus could help to reduce the potential risk of ionizing radiation related health problems.

Regular clinical monitoring and follow-up X-rays are needed to providing proper treatment at that time. Repetitive X-rays can results in an increased risk of radiation related health problems.

The article deals with an idea of exploiting an acoustic shear wave biosensor for investigating the glycocalyx, a polysaccharide polymer molecule layer on the endothelium of blood vessels that, according to recent studies, plays an important role in protecting against diseases. To test this idea, a mathematical model of an acoustic shear wave sensor and corresponding software developed earlier for proteomic applications are used. In this case, the glycocalyx is treated as a layer homogenized over the thin polymer "villi".

Method: The influence of ESL is modeled by a boundary layer with zero flow velocity. Finite element modeling and an analytical approach based on the homogenization of the core region of blood flow occupied by erythrocytes are developed to describe the resistance of a capillary.
: Endometriosis is a benign, chronic disease, that negatively influences the quality of life of affected women and is responsible for a remarkable amount of infertility. The pathophysiology of the disease is still not clarified, but the insufficient immune surveillance plays a significant role in it. The phagocyte function of innate immune cells may play a role in the elimination of ectopic endometrium.

Iron-limited diatoms can increase biogenic silica (bSi) content >2-fold relative to that of particulate organic carbon (C) and nitrogen (N), which has implications for carbon export efficiency given the ballasted nature of the silica-based diatom cell wall. Understanding the molecular and physiological drivers of this altered cellular stoichiometry would foster a predictive understanding of how low Fe affects diatom carbon export.

In the study, we investigated the alterations in the distributions of naïve and memory B cell subsets, as well as regulatory B (Breg) cells, in the third trimester of pregnancy. Peripheral blood from 14 healthy pregnant women in the third trimester and 7 healthy non-pregnant women was collected and examined for the frequencies of B cell subsets, including IgDCD27 naïve, IgDCD27 un-switched memory, IgDCD27 switched memory, CD38CD24 mature-naïve, CD38CD24 primarily memory and CD38CD24 transitional B cells by flow cytometry.
