A cross-sectional study of explainable machine learning in Alzheimer's disease: diagnostic classification using MR radiomic features.

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD) even nowadays remains a complex neurodegenerative disease and its diagnosis relies mainly on cognitive tests which have many limitations. On the other hand, qualitative imaging will not provide an early diagnosis because the radiologist will perceive brain atrophy on a late disease stage. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to investigate the necessity of quantitative imaging in the assessment of AD by using machine learning (ML) methods.

Predictors of changing patterns of adherence to containment measures during the early stage of COVID-19 pandemic: an international longitudinal study.

Background: Identifying common factors that affect public adherence to COVID-19 containment measures can directly inform the development of official public health communication strategies. The present international longitudinal study aimed to examine whether prosociality, together with other theoretically derived motivating factors (self-efficacy, perceived susceptibility and severity of COVID-19, perceived social support) predict the change in adherence to COVID-19 containment strategies.

Method: In wave 1 of data collection, adults from eight geographical regions completed online surveys beginning in April 2020, and wave 2 began in June and ended in September 2020.

Introduction: We aim to understand the factors that drive citizens of different countries to adhere to recommended self-protective behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: Survey data was obtained through the COVID-19 Impact project. We selected countries that presented a sufficiently complete time series and a statistically relevant sample for running the analysis: Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of death and morbidity worldwide. To date, the relationship between regional deprivation and CRC incidence or mortality has not been studied in the population of Cyprus. The objective of this study was to analyse the geographical variation of CRC incidence and mortality and its possible association with socioeconomic inequalities in Cyprus for the time period of 2000-2015.

Dual Trigger with Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone Agonist and Human Chorionic Gonadotropin of Fresh Autologous Cycles in High Responders: A Systematic Review.

Background: The purpose of the current study was to investigate the effect of co-administration of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) with gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) trigger (dual trigger) in high responders for fresh autologous cycles in order to investigate the pregnancy outcomes and rates of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in comparison to GnRH-a trigger alone.

Methods: A systematic search was performed in PubMed and Ovid MEDLINE from inception through February 2020. The included materials were case-control, cohort and, cross-sectional studies as well as clinical trials in which the outcomes of dual trigger with GnRH-a were compared for final oocyte maturation in high responders undergoing GnRH-ant cycles.

Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is the most common congenital viral infection and can be a major cause of neurodevelopmental disabilities, including various ocular disorders in infants and young children. This review summarizes the evidence on the association between congenital CMV infection and the type and frequency of ocular disorders. A systematic search was conducted across PubMed and Cochrane Library from inception through December 2021 to identify studies examining the association between congenital CMV infection and the occurrence of ocular disorders in children born with this infection.

Healthcare workers' (HCW) clothing has been shown to harbor multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDRB) and may contribute to transmission. The aim of this study was to evaluate presence of MDRB on HCW uniforms in Cyprus. A cross-sectional study was carried out in 9 hospital wards and 7 long-term care facilities (LTCFs) in Nicosia, Cyprus, from April-August 2019.

Cognitive impairment in schizophrenia forms the key cause of the disease's disability, leading to serious functional, and socioeconomic implications. Dopaminergic-cholinergic balance is considered essential to cognitive performance in schizophrenia and patients are often treated with many drugs with anticholinergic properties. This study aims to examine the cognitive impact of anticholinergic burden in patients with schizophrenia.

Comparing hip and knee focused exercises versus hip and knee focused exercises with the use of blood flow restriction training in adults with patellofemoral pain.

Background: Hip and knee strengthening exercises are implemented in rehabilitation of patellofemoral pain patients, but typically use high loads (70% of 1 repetition maximum). This may lead to increased patellofemoral joint stress. Low load training (20-30% of 1 repetition maximum) with blood flow restriction could allow for exercise strength benefits to proximal and distal muscles with reduced joint stress and by promoting hypoalgesia.

Mental Health and Adherence to COVID-19 Protective Behaviors among Cancer Patients during the COVID-19 Pandemic: An International, Multinational Cross-Sectional Study.

A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted during the first COVID-19 wave, to examine the impact of COVID-19 on mental health using an anonymous online survey, enrolling 9565 individuals in 78 countries. The current sub-study examined the impact of the pandemic and the associated lockdown measures on the mental health, and protective behaviors of cancer patients in comparison to non-cancer participants. Furthermore, 264 participants from 30 different countries reported being cancer patients.

Shift to emergency remote preclinical medical education amidst the Covid-19 pandemic: A single-institution study.

The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted medical education, shifting it towards emergency remote delivery. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the impact of the pandemic on preclinical medical education and identify predictors of the virtual learning experience and perceived stress. An anonymous survey was delivered electronically to the students of the authors' medical school that attended either histology or pathology.

Background: Identification of the factors that could potentially lead to congenital hearing loss is of paramount importance, as early detection of congenital hearing loss and intervention could prevent developmental delays in speech, language development as well as childhood cognitive impairment. Hitherto, intrauterine exposure to Zika virus has emerged as a cause of various fetal malformations, including cases of congenital hearing loss. The aim of this systematic review is to investigate the association between intrauterine exposure to Zika virus and hearing loss in children.
