Chest computer tomography (CT) provides a readily available and efficient tool for COVID-19 diagnosis. Wavelet and contourlet transforms have the advantages of being localized in both space and time. In addition, multiresolution analysis allows for the separation of relevant image information in the different subbands.

Emotion artificial intelligence (AI) is being increasingly adopted in several industries such as healthcare and education. Facial expressions and tone of speech have been previously considered for emotion recognition, yet they have the drawback of being easily manipulated by subjects to mask their true emotions. Electroencephalography (EEG) has emerged as a reliable and cost-effective method to detect true human emotions.

Glaucoma is a silent progressive eye disease that is among the leading causes of irreversible blindness. Early detection and proper treatment of glaucoma can limit severe vision impairments associated with advanced stages of the disease. Periodic automatic screening can help in the early detection of glaucoma while reducing the workload on expert ophthalmologists.

Retinal image quality assessment (RIQA) is essential to assure that the images investigated by ophthalmologists or automatic systems are suitable for reliable medical diagnosis. Measure-based RIQA techniques have several advantages over the more commonly used binary classification-based RIQA methods. Numeric quality measures can aid ophthalmologists in associating a degree of confidence to the diagnosis performed through the investigation of a certain retinal image.

Retinal image quality assessment (RIQA) is an essential step in automated screening systems to avoid misdiagnosis caused by processing poor quality retinal images. A no-reference transform-based RIQA algorithm is introduced that assesses images based on five clarity and content quality issues: sharpness, illumination, homogeneity, field definition, and content. Transform-based RIQA algorithms have the advantage of considering retinal structures while being computationally inexpensive.
