Ameliorative effects of zinc supplementation on cognitive function and hippocampal leptin signaling pathway in obese male and female rats.

Obesity has been associated with cognitive impairments, increasing the probability of developing dementia. Recently, zinc (Zn) supplementation has attracted an increasing attention as a therapeutic agent for cognitive disorders. Here, we investigated the potential effects of low and high doses of Zn supplementation on cognitive biomarkers and leptin signaling pathway in the hippocampus of high fat diet (HFD)-fed rats.

Level of lead and cadmium in infant formulae.

The concentration of heavy metals, lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd), were estimated in formula (powdered milk) and cow milk. Eleven samples of infant formulae which represent most kinds of formulae used for feeding infants from birth up to 2 years were taken from pharmacies. Sixteen samples of cow's milk were collected two times during the year from 8 dairy shops in 4 districts in Alexandria.
