The discharge of herbicides is a primary contributor to water contamination, presenting significant environmental and public health hazards. Encapsulating herbicides in a chemical compound called MAl-MOF/CS-CMC hydrogel bead (MACC) made from magnetic aluminum metal-organic frameworks (MAl-MOF) and crosslinked with chitosan (CS) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) shows promise for potential use. The research successfully developed and examined MACC microspheres, utilizing various analytical techniques including PXRD, FESEM, TEM, FT-IR, and XPS.

This research presents a novel nanocomposite of ferrous metal-organic framework (Fe(II)-MOF) that has been encapsulated with chitosan matrix, leading to the development of a new adsorbent referred to as NH-Fe(II)-MOF@CSC composite sponge. This composite sponge has shown effectiveness in removing radioactive thorium (IV) contamination from water sources. The adsorbent underwent characterization using techniques including FTIR, PXRD, BET analysis, and SEM.
