Introduction: Brazil has experienced transformations in higher education and health services, including launching more inclusive public policies focused on these two areas.
Objective: To evaluate the profile of final-year dental students from a Brazilian public university from 2010 to 2019, accompanied by changes in public health and higher education policies.
Methods: A prospective observacional study was carried out with final-year dental students.
Owing to its detrimental effect on plant growth, salinity is an increasing worldwide problem for agriculture. To understand the molecular mechanisms activated in response to salt in Arabidopsis thaliana, we investigated the Catharanthus roseus receptor-like kinase 1-like family, which contains sensors that were previously shown to be involved in sensing the structural integrity of the cell walls. We found that herk1 the1-4 double mutants, lacking the function of HERKULES1 (HERK1) and combined with a gain-of-function allele of THESEUS1 (THE1), strongly respond to salt application, resulting in an intense activation of stress responses, similarly to plants lacking FERONIA (FER) function.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: A small number of studies have shown a significant reduction in HbA1c, weight and total daily insulin dose when a glucagon-like-peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogue was added in type 2 diabetes patients already on insulin treatment. Therefore, in a clinical setting, we investigated the effect of adding GLP-1 analogues in patients with type 2 diabetes already using insulin with respect to glycaemic control, body weight and insulin dose.
Methods: In this prospective hospital-based study, we included 125 patients suffering from type 2 diabetes, treated with insulin and with a body mass index ≥ 35 kg/m2, who had started on GLP-1 analogues (liraglutide/exenatide).
Objective: The aim of this study was to examine interest in psychosocial interventions among patients with multiple myeloma at time of diagnosis as well as associated factors.
Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma were recruited from our outpatient myeloma unit at the Heidelberg University Hospital. Patients completed questionnaires that included a checklist on desired psychosocial interventions and the Patient Health Questionnaire 9-item (PHQ-9) depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) anxiety scales.
Different preconditioning stimuli can activate divergent signaling pathways. In rats, adenosine-independent pathways (triple 3-min coronary artery occlusion [3CAO3]) and adenosine-dependent pathways (one 15-min coronary artery occlusion [ICAO15]) exist, both ultimately converging at the level of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. Furthermore, while 3CAO3, 1CAO15 and exogenous adenosine (ADO) are equally cardioprotective, only 1CAO15 increases interstitial myocardial adenosine levels.
