Background: Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) is a common respiratory pathogen in children that can sometimes lead to extrapulmonary manifestations. Among these, pediatric pulmonary thromboembolism (PE) is clinically rare but carries significant implications. However, it is often underrecognized, and its diagnosis and treatment are not well understood.

Herein, an aptamer-responsive microneedle patch sensor combining with hybridization chain reaction (HCR) amplification (Apt-HCR MN COR patch) was prepared for easy, accurate and minimally-invasive detection of cortisol in skin interstitial fluid (ISF).

I-Motif DNA Based Fluorescent Ratiometric Microneedle Sensing Patch for Sensitive Response of Small pH Variations in Interstitial Fluid.

Detection of slight pH changes in skin interstitial fluid (ISF) is crucial yet challenging for studying pathological processes and understanding personal health conditions. In this work, we construct an i-motif DNA based fluorescent ratiometric microneedle sensing patch (IFR-pH MN patch) strategy that enables minimally invasive, high-resolution, and sensitive transdermal monitoring of small pH variations in ISF. The IFR-pH MN patch with advanced integration of both ISF sampling and pH sensing was fabricated from the cross-linking of gelatin methacryloyl and methacrylated hyaluronic acid, wrapping with pH-sensitive hairpin-containing i-motif DNA based fluorescent ratiometric probes in the matrix.

The dynamics of RNAs are related intimately to their functions. Molecular flexibility, as a starting point for understanding their dynamics, has been utilized to predict many characteristics associated with their functions. Since the experimental measurement methods are time-consuming and labor-intensive, it is urgently needed to develop reliable theoretical methods to predict RNA flexibility.

Background: "The hidden costs of informal caregiving" is an interdisciplinary concept. While caregivers make a significant contribution to the process of caregiving, they sacrifice their leisure time, and incur risks of dropping out of the job, impaired mental and physical health, and decreased well-being within the context of caregiving. Those invisible sacrifices are often overlooked and described as hidden costs of informal caregiving.

Caregiving risk perception characteristics and associated factors among informal caregivers of functionally dependent elderly individuals at home: a qualitative study.

Background: This study explored risk perception characteristics and influencing factors among informal caregivers of functionally dependent elderly individuals at home, aiming to improve caregivers' caregiving risk perception and coping abilities and ultimately enhance the quality of life for these individuals.

Methods: We used purposive sampling to select 22 informal caregivers from a community in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China, between March and September 2023 and conducted face-to-face semi-structured in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi's seven-step analysis method.

Prediction of Protein Allosteric Sites with Transfer Entropy and Spatial Neighbor-Based Evolutionary Information Learned by an Ensemble Model.

Allostery is one of the most direct and efficient ways to regulate protein functions. The diverse allosteric sites make it possible to design allosteric modulators of differential selectivity and improved safety compared with those of orthosteric drugs targeting conserved orthosteric sites. Here, we develop an ensemble machine learning method AllosES to predict protein allosteric sites in which the new and effective features are utilized, including the entropy transfer-based dynamic property, secondary structure features, and our previously proposed spatial neighbor-based evolutionary information besides the traditional physicochemical properties.

Experiences of family caregivers of patients with post-traumatic hydrocephalus from hospital to home: a qualitative study.

Background: Post-traumatic hydrocephalus (PTH) is a complication of traumatic brain injury (TBI) that requires treatment and postoperative care. The shunt is one of the main treatments for PTH, which presents with dysfunction and infection. Considering brain injury, hydrocephalus shunt malfunction, and infection, family caregivers need to be responsible for caring for PTH patients, recognizing shunt malfunction and infection, and managing those patients accordingly from hospital to home.

Due to the heterogeneity of a tumor, the tumor vascular interruption-based therapy has become an ideal treatment strategy. Herein, artificial nanoplatelets are reported to induce selective thrombosis in tumor vessels, which can achieve rapid and large-scale necrosis of tumor cells. For one, the nanoplatelets are exploited to specially release thrombin into target regions without affecting the established coagulation factors system.
