Cancer immunotherapy is coming of age; it has prompted a paradigm shift in oncology, in which therapeutic agents are used to target immune cells rather than cancer cells. The first generation of new immunotherapies corresponds to antagonistic antibodies that block specific immune checkpoint molecules cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4), programmed cell death protein (PD-1) and its ligand PD-L1. Targeting these checkpoints in patients living with cancer had led to long-lasting tumour responses.

Therefore, their use will not be limited anymore to selected hospitals involved in clinical trials. Indeed, they will be routinely prescribed in many cancer centers across the world.

We investigated the diagnostic utility of pleural ADA using a retrospective analysis of patients admitted with newly diagnosed pleural effusion without identified etiology between 2001 and 2008 in Paris suburb, a low to medium tuberculosis prevalence area. 104 adults (mean age 55 years; 34 with pTB, 70 with other diagnoses) were analyzed.

Although various microorganisms are thought to trigger HS, most of the literature data on this topic have been gathered in single-centre case series. Here, we sought to characterize infectious triggers in a large, multicentre cohort of patients with HS.

They are called HIV controllers, and their status places them at the limits of bio-clinical normality. The objective of this study was to investigate HIV controllers' beliefs and representations of their individual trajectories using a qualitative approach.

By combining the majority of available genome-wide genotyping data in HIV-infected populations, we tested for association between ∼8 million variants and viral load (HIV RNA copies per milliliter of plasma) in 6,315 individuals of European ancestry. The strongest signal of association was observed in the HLA class I region that was fully explained by independent effects mapping to five variable amino acid positions in the peptide binding grooves of the HLA-B and HLA-A proteins.

Methods: A standardised questionnaire was used for a nationwide retrospective multicentre study in 2013 to collect clinical, radiological and outcome data about PRES associated with systemic vasculitis.
Results: We included six patients (all women; mean age 22.
Two of the crucial aspects of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection are (i) viral persistence in reservoirs (precluding viral eradication) and (ii) chronic inflammation (directly associated with all-cause morbidities in antiretroviral therapy (ART)-controlled HIV-infected patients). The objective of the present study was to assess the potential involvement of adipose tissue in these two aspects. Adipose tissue is composed of adipocytes and the stromal vascular fraction (SVF); the latter comprises immune cells such as CD4+ T cells and macrophages (both of which are important target cells for HIV).

Methods: We analyzed the characteristics and outcome of HIV-associated cHL diagnosed in the modern cART era. The French ANRS-CO16 Lymphovir cohort enrolled 159 HIV-positive patients with lymphoma, including 68 (43%) with cHL.
Background: Few studies have investigated infections in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected liver transplant patients. The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence, time of onset, mortality of infectious complications, other than hepatitis C virus (HCV), and to identify risk factors for their development in a large single-center cohort of HIV-infected liver transplant patients.
Methods: We studied 109 consecutive HIV-infected patients who underwent liver transplantation (LT) between 1999 and 2010 and followed until December 2012.
Some HIV controllers (HICs) experience CD4+T cell count loss and/or lose their ability to control HIV. In this study, we investigated the rate of immunologic and/or virologic progression (ImmP/VirP) and its determinants in the ANRS CO21/CODEX cohort. Immunologic progression was defined as a lasting fall in CD4+T cell count below 350/mm(3) or more than 200/mm(3) with a baseline count below 600/mm(3).

Many follow-up recommendations have been published based on expert consensus. However, common clinical scenarios can still be vexing for clinicians who are less experienced at managing patients with testicular cancer.

Its primary pathogenesis involves small vessel obliterative microangiopathy. Recently, autosomal recessively inherited mutations in CTC1 have been reported in CRMCC patients.

The files of 314 patients with a suspected diagnosis of HS were retrospectively reviewed. EBV viral load at the time of HS was compared between HIV-positive and -negative patients.

Single-agent recombinant human interleukin-7 therapy was associated with restoration of anti-John Cunningham polyomavirus (JCV) T-cell responses, JCV clearance from cerebrospinal fluid, and a dramatic clinical improvement.

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma has been described during this disease course, and we observed in our cohort of 23 patients 2 cases of angio-immunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. We focus here on histopathological (n=12 patients) and immunophenotypic (n=15) characteristics of CD3(-)CD4(+) lymphoid variant of hypereosinophilic syndrome.

In contrast, the functional Th17 cell compartment of the gut is well-maintained in nonpathogenic simian immunodeficiency virus infection as well as HIV-1 long-term nonprogressors. Here, we show that dendritic cells (DCs) loaded with HIV-1 bearing high surface complement levels after incubation in plasma from HIV-infected individuals secreted significantly higher concentrations of Th17-polarizing cytokines than DCs exposed to nonopsonized HIV-1.
