Introduction And Hypothesis: Various treatment options are currently available for the management of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). This study was aimed at determining the effectiveness and safety profile of Bulkamid, and identify predictive factors of clinical success.

Methods: This retrospective study conducted in two French urogynecology university centers between September 2019 and December 2023 included all patients with urinary incontinence who received Bulkamid.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Sacrospinous fixation (SSF) is a surgical complex procedure for uterovaginal prolapse that may result in pudendal plexus and vascular damage. The objective was to evaluate a training model using virtual reality to perform SSF.

Methods: We conducted a prospective single-center pilot study in the university's academic innovation department in November 2023.

Advanced characterization is paramount to understanding battery cycling and degradation in greater detail. Herein, we present a novel methodology of battery electrode analysis, employing focused ion beam (FIB) secondary-ion mass spectrometry platforms coupled with a specific lift-out specimen preparation, allowing us to optimize analysis and prevent air contamination. Correlative microscopy, combining electron microscopy and chemical imaging of a liquid electrolyte Li-ion battery electrode, is performed over the entire electrode thickness down to subparticle domains.

Objectives: Low grade serous ovarian carcinoma (LGSOC) accounts for 2.5% of all ovarian carcinoma more affects younger women than high grade serous ovarian carcinoma. Hysterectomy is performed routinely for LGSOC treatment, but fertility sparring surgery (FSS) is feasible for some early stages.

Background: Midurethral slings are the gold standard for treating stress urinary incontinence, but their complications may raise concerns. Complications may differ by the approach used to place them.

Objective: This study aimed to compare serious complications and reoperations for recurrence after midurethral sling procedures when using the retropubic vs the transobturator route for female stress urinary incontinence.

Article Synopsis
  • Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common issue in women, leading to the descent of pelvic organs, impacting quality of life, though it may not always cause symptoms.
  • Treatment options range from pelvic-floor physical therapy to surgical procedures like anterior sacrospinous ligament fixation (ASSLF), which has shown effectiveness, shorter operative time, and fewer complications compared to traditional methods.
  • A case study of a 72-year-old woman with advanced prolapse illustrates the importance of ASSLF, and a video tutorial has been developed to standardize and educate on the surgical steps involved, promoting better outcomes in treatment.

Background: In France, 62,000 hysterectomies are performed per year, 70% of which are benign. The choice of approach (laparotomy, laparoscopy or vaginal route) is particularly important in the case of large uterus (> 280g) which are associated with a higher risk of complications. The current data are not sufficient to favour one or other approach.

Background: Patients with cirrhosis are at high risk of thrombotic events, including portal vein thrombosis and venous thromboembolism. In such patients, hypercoagulability is not detected by conventional coagulation tests, but only by the thrombin generation assay (TGA) that integrates the role of pro- and anticoagulant factors. However, TGA use to predict clinical events depends on thrombin generation variability over time.

To evaluate the rates of serious complications and reoperation for recurrence following sacrospinous ligament fixation (SSLF) for apical pelvic organ prolapse. This was a national registry ancillary cohort comparative study. The VIGI-MESH registry includes data from 24 French health centers prospectively collected between May 2017 and September 2021.

In recent years, Cu-CNT composites have attracted much attention due to their remarkable properties, in comparison to pure copper, such as higher ampacity and a lower thermal coefficient of resistance. However, the fabrication of an efficient Cu-CNT composite is still challenging, mainly due to the high cuprophobicity of CNTs. To strengthen the chemical interactions between Cu and CNTs, we propose using a Cu-doped polydopamine coating as an interface between CNTs and metallic copper.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The main objective of the study was to evaluate the rates of de novo stress urinary (SUI) and postoperative dyspareunia after both sacrocolpopexy/hysteropexy (SCP) and vaginal mesh surgery.

Methods: A prospective, multicenter, randomized, open-label study with two parallel groups treated by either SCP or Uphold Lite vaginal mesh was carried out. Study participants were ≥ 50 and < 80 years old patients with Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification (POP-Q) stage ≥2 who were considered eligible for reconstructive surgery and who were sexually active with no dyspareunia and free from bothersome SUI at presentation.

Article Synopsis
  • The COVID-19 pandemic led to significant changes in gynaecological cancer care, prompting a study to evaluate the psychological effects of these modifications on patients during the lockdown period in France.
  • In a study of 205 patients, treatment was maintained for 59.5%, delayed for 35.1%, and cancelled for 5.4%, with notable levels of anxiety (29.7% reported) and fatigue during the lockdown.
  • Post-lockdown, patients reported improved mental health scores, but those with delayed or cancelled treatments experienced higher anxiety levels, indicating that treatment changes had a lasting psychological impact.

Study Objective: To validate the use of an innovative navigation method for sacrospinous fixation in surgery-like conditions as a new teaching tool and surgical method.

Design: Two-month experimental prospective pilot study between July and August 2021.

Setting: Biomechanics laboratory academic research.

Obstetrical anal sphincter injury (OASIS) may lead to significant comorbidities, including anal incontinence, rectovaginal fistula, and pain. A correct repair is required to avoid improper healing, as a persistent defect in the external anal sphincter after delivery can increase the risk of complications and worsening of symptoms following subsequent vaginal deliveries. Herein is described the surgical repair technique for a fourth degree perineal tear.

Introduction And Hypothesis: We assessed 3-year anatomic and functional results using synthetic glue to fix mesh in laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy.

Methods: Prospective multicenter cohort study in three academic urogynecology departments. Seventy consecutive patients with stage ≥ 3 POP-Q (Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification) anterior and/or apical prolapse underwent laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy using synthetic surgical glue to fix anterior and posterior meshes to the vagina.

Article Synopsis
  • - Ovarian torsion during pregnancy is rare and most commonly occurs in the first trimester; this case discusses one at 33 weeks in a twin pregnancy that was ultimately managed successfully.
  • - The patient experienced irregular uterine contractions and acute pain, leading to an ultrasound that revealed a cyst and suspected torsion in the right ovary.
  • - A laparotomy, guided by ultrasound, was performed for diagnosis and management, resulting in a successful normal delivery at 37 weeks, demonstrating the importance of clinical assessment in ovarian torsion cases.

Ectopic pregnancy is a frequent and life-threatening risk of childbearing. Its management represents a mainstay of emergency gynecological surgery, and laparoscopy is the surgical gold standard technique. The technique of transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (V-NOTES) for the management of ectopic pregnancy is presented herein.

Since the recent controversy about vaginal mesh implants, surgeons should use safe and effective devices and procedures to treat female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). We propose to describe the noninvasive and ambulatory technique of the urethral bulking procedure. Bulking agents are a simple, minimally invasive technique that can be offered in the treatment of female SUI.

The transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) is a new minimally invasive and emerging technique. Feasibility and safety profiles of peritoneal access via transvaginal routes have been demonstrated especially for the adnexal surgery. In order to be reproducible and replicable with a standardized procedure, we propose the step-by-step video description of the vNOTES salpingectomy.
