Introduction: Despite progress in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in medical education, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual, and more (LGBTQIA+) individuals remain underrepresented and often face barriers to equitable advancement. Emergency medicine (EM) residency programs are instrumental in creating inclusive environments that attract diverse applicants and support LGBTQIA+ trainees. Since the COVID-19 pandemic's shift to virtual recruitment, residency websites have become vital tools for communicating DEI initiatives.

Is SDF better than the SMART (silver modified atraumatic restorative technique) in the management of molar incisor hypomineralisation molars with initial caries?

Design: A prospective, randomized, split-mouth clinical study by the two previously trained and calibrated pediatric dentists without blinding operators and patients due to different protocols in both treatment groups. An SDF + potassium iodide (KI) and SDF + KI + glass ionmer cement (GIC) on International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) 1/2 molar was received by each patient on either side of mouth. Development of a hybrid undergraduate portfolio for the AETCOM module.

Background: A structured Attitude Ethics and Communication (AETCOM) module for undergraduates exists. For ensuring that the module achieves what it is intended to achieve, there was a felt need to develop a learning portfolio with an emphasis on reflections and with a scope for assessment.

Methods: The AETCOM module by NMC has laid out objectives, lesson plans, and case-based scenarios.

Creation of a National Emergency Medicine Medical Education Journal Club.

Background There are a relatively limited number of emergency medicine (EM) medical education (MedEd) fellowships with few trainees at each program, creating barriers to local collaboration and networking. While best practices for developing MedEd journal clubs exist, there has not been an established national EM MedEd journal club. To address this need, we created a national journal club, the Council of Residency Directors (CORD) MedEd Journal Club (MEJC), to facilitate collaboration and networking opportunities by providing a synchronous online journal club.

Prospective validity evidence for the abbreviated emergency medicine Copenhagen Burnout Inventory.

Background: Prior research has provided retrospective validity evidence for an abbreviated Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) to measure burnout among emergency medicine (EM) residents. We sought to provide additional validity and reliability evidence for the two-factor, six-item abbreviated CBI.

Methods: This cross-sectional study used data from the abbreviated CBI that was administered following the 2022 American Board of Emergency Medicine In-training Examination.

The Comorbidities, Radiographic Findings, Age, and Lymphopenia (CORAL) Tool: A Diagnostic Ally for Emergency Physicians Created for the COVID-19 Crisis and Beyond.

Background: This study aimed to develop a novel clinical approach to predict intensive care unit (ICU) admission and mortality among coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in the emergency department (ED).

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted including adults ≥ 18 years diagnosed with COVID-19 in the emergency department and admitted to the ICU between March and July 2020 in an academic hospital. The outcome variables were mortality and ICU admission.

Emergency medicine physician workforce attrition differences by age and gender.

Background: Emergency care workforce concerns have gained national prominence given recent data suggesting higher than previously estimated attrition. With little known regarding characteristics of physicians leaving the workforce, we sought to investigate the age and number of years since residency graduation at which male and female emergency physicians (EPs) exhibited workforce attrition.

Methods: We performed a repeated cross-sectional analysis of EPs reimbursed by Medicare linked to date of birth and residency graduation date data from the American Board of Emergency Medicine for the years 2013-2020.

In our commentary, we propose that the ORE can be viewed as a form of perceptual expertise. Like experts, we recognize own-race faces at the subordinate level as individuals and novices when recognize other-race faces at the basic level of race. Applying a perceptual expertise account, we explain the ORE in terms of its cognitive, neural, and motivational factors.
