Neuraxial adjuvants like dexmedetomidine and neostigmine improve postoperative pain relief, but their safety and effectiveness in epidural use are not well understood.
In a study with 60 patients undergoing lower limb surgeries, three groups received different combinations of bupivacaine, neostigmine, and dexmedetomidine to assess pain relief and side effects.
Results showed that the combination of dexmedetomidine and neostigmine provided the longest pain relief, while neostigmine had a low incidence of gastrointestinal side effects.
