In many low- and middle-income countries, school children consume untreated water that has been pumped into storage tanks. The water is often of poor quality and consumption can cause gastrointestinal illnesses resulting in missed school days, growth stunting, and cognitive impairment. This study deployed a silver-ceramic technology (MadiDrop) to disinfect drinking water in school storage tanks.

The upregulations of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) antigen are used for the presence of prostate cancer. However, published literature shows incidentally detected PSMA uptake in various nonprostatic benign and malignant conditions, which led to questioning the specificity of PSMA-targeted PET. In present case, we highlighted the abnormal PSMA expression in the benign bone abnormality.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses the common causes of multiple space-occupying lesions in the liver, which include metastases, multifocal hepatocellular carcinoma, and abscesses.
  • Primary hepatic lymphomas are rare and complicate management, especially since imaging techniques like PET-CT can be hard to interpret when the liver is the only affected area.
  • The case presented involves an 82-year-old woman with multiple liver space-occupying lesions.

Article Synopsis
  • Cervical cancer continues to be a serious health issue in India and other low- to middle-income countries despite global declines in rates, highlighted by a survey involving 316 respondents that assessed current challenges and prevention strategies in India.
  • A significant 65.8% of participants identified the screening of mothers and vaccination of daughters as the most crucial preventative measures, with 79% reporting that screening is provided to eligible asymptomatic women.
  • There is strong support (93%) for including HPV vaccination in the national immunization program, although the high cost of the vaccine is a major barrier; however, with a new affordable HPV vaccine soon to be available, there is optimism regarding improved prevention efforts against cervical cancer.

Purpose: Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is primarily considered a bleeding disorder; its impact on patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is under-recognized. We aimed to assess how aligned patient and physician perceptions are regarding ITP-associated symptoms, HRQoL, and disease management in India.

Methods: Patients and physicians (hematologists/hemato-oncologists) from India who participated in the global ITP World Impact Survey (I-WISh) were included in this subgroup analysis (survey).

Purpose: Intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) provides higher dose to target volumes and limits the dose to normal tissues. IMRT may be applied using either simultaneous integrated boost (SIB-IMRT) or sequential boost (SEQ-IMRT) technique. The objectives of this study were to compare acute toxicity and objective response rates between SIB-IMRT and SEQ-IMRT in patients with locally advanced head and neck cancer.

Introduction: The advances of modern radiotherapy have emerged with the development of conformal radiotherapy techniques, such as the three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). We prospectively compared acute toxicities and treatment-compliance between IMRT and 3DCRT in patients with locally advanced head and neck carcinoma.

Method: 80 patients were enrolled in this comparative prospective non-randomized study.

Aim: To determine the role and efficacy of oral glutamine in the treatment of chemo-radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis and dysphagia in patients with carcinoma of the oropharynx and larynx. The primary objective of this study was to compare the incidence and severity of oral mucositis and dysphagia between the glutamine group (oral glutamine, along with concurrent chemo-radiotherapy) and the control group (concurrent chemo-radiotherapy alone, no glutamine). Secondary objectives were to compare the time to onset of oral mucositis and dysphagia, the incidence of treatment breaks (more than three consecutive radiation fractions missed), and significant weight loss (more than 3 kilograms of weight loss from the baseline) between the two groups.

Plasmacytoma of the skull-base is a rare entity. Differential diagnosis includes chordoma, osteosarcoma, carcinoma nasopharynx, meningioma, metastatic carcinoma, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. Accurate and precise diagnosis is extremely important for plasmacytoma of the skull-base as its treatment and prognosis is different from other skull-base lesions.
