A comparative study on perception and use of generic drugs between public and private health practitioners.

Context: The perception of generic drugs may vary significantly between government and private doctors because physicians in the private sector have more prescribing choices and flexibility. Hence, this study was undertaken to analyse the knowledge, attitude and perception (KAP) of government and private physicians on generic drugs.

Materials And Methods: This was a questionnaire-based cross-sectional study conducted among physicians working in public and private health sectors.

A Comparative Study of Health Anxiety in Neurology and Psychiatry Settings.

 Prevalence of health anxiety is highly varied based on different settings and samples studied. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of health anxiety among outpatients attending neurology and psychiatry outpatient setting in tertiary care hospital and understand the clinical correlates.  This was a cross-sectional study conducted in the outpatient settings including participants fulfilling study criteria.

Comparative transcriptome analysis of pigeonpea, Cajanus cajan (L.) and one of its wild relatives Cajanus platycarpus (Benth.) Maesen.

Pigeonpea is a major source of dietary protein to the vegetarian population of the Indian sub-continent. Crop improvement to mitigate biotic and abiotic stresses for realization of its potential yield and bridging yield gap is the need of the hour. Forensic psychiatry in India: Past, present, and future.

Forensic psychiatry is a subspecialty of psychiatry, in which scientific and clinical expertise is applied to legal issues in legal contexts embracing civil, criminal, correctional, or legislative matters. Forensic psychiatry is still in an infant stage in India and other developing countries. Law is the sanctioning discipline, and Psychiatry is the therapeutic discipline.

H2O-CH4 and H2S-CH4 complexes: a direct comparison through molecular beam experiments and ab initio calculations.

New molecular beam scattering experiments have been performed to measure the total (elastic plus inelastic) cross sections as a function of the velocity in collisions between water and hydrogen sulfide projectile molecules and the methane target. Measured data have been exploited to characterize the range and strength of the intermolecular interaction in such systems, which are of relevance as they drive the gas phase molecular dynamics and the clathrate formation. Complementary information has been obtained by rotational spectra, recorded for the hydrogen sulfide-methane complex, with a pulsed nozzle Fourier transform microwave spectrometer.

GhDRIN1, a novel drought-induced gene of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) confers abiotic and biotic stress tolerance in transgenic tobacco.

A novel stress tolerance cDNA fragment encoding GhDRIN1 protein was identified and its regulation was studied in cotton boll tissues and seedlings subjected to various biotic and abiotic stresses. Phylogenetic and conserved domain prediction indicated that GhDRIN1 was annotated with a hypothetical protein of unknown function. Subcellular localization showed that GhDRIN1 is localized in the chloroplasts.

Polychlorinated biphenyls impair blood-brain barrier integrity via disruption of tight junction proteins in cerebrum, cerebellum and hippocampus of female Wistar rats: neuropotential role of quercetin.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) comprise a ubiquitous class of toxic substances associated with carcinogenic and tumor-promoting effects as well as neurotoxic properties. Reactive oxygen species, which is produced from PCBs, alters blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity, which is paralleled by cytoskeletal rearrangements and redistribution and disappearance of tight junction proteins (TJPs) like claudin-5 and occludin. Quercetin, a potent antioxidant present in onion and other vegetables, appears to protect brain cells against oxidative stress, a tissue-damaging process associated with Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative disorders.

Evaluation of antidiabetic potential of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) in alloxan-induced diabetic mice.

Objectives: To study the antidiabetic activity of Pleurotus ostreatus in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic mice.

Materials And Methods: Ethanolic extract of fruiting bodies of P. ostreatus was tested for their antidiabetic activity.

Identification of the dipeptidyl aminopeptidase responsible for N-terminal clipping of recombinant Exendin-4 precursor expressed in Pichia pastoris.

Exendin-4 is a naturally occurring 39 amino acid peptide that is useful for the control of Type 2 diabetes. Recombinant Exendin-4, with an extra glycine at the carboxy-terminus (Exdgly), was expressed in the methylotropic yeast Pichia pastoris. A high proportion of the Exdgly molecules secreted into medium were found to be clipped, lacking the first two amino acids (His-Gly) from the N-terminus.

Genetic transformation in Aspergilli: tools of the trade.

DNA-mediated transformation is a powerful tool that allows the introduction of specific genetic changes in an organism. Transformation of Aspergilli, acclaimed for their wide use in the industry, has been possible for about two decades now. Several basic and applied problems related to fungal biology have been addressed using this technique.
