The evidence that supports this view includes findings that embedded islets (islets surrounded by exocrine tissue) undergo less apoptosis, peripancreatic lymph nodes prevent recurrence of IDDM (insulin dependent diabetes mellitus), and that islet yields and insulin content decrease during the purification process.
