Introduction: To study the incidence of bone cement implantation syndrome in elderly patients undergoing cemented stem hip arthroplasty with the use of pulse lavage.
Materials And Methods: 40 consecutive patients undergoing cemented stem hip arthroplasty enrolled in the study and intra-operative vitals post induction and post cementing were recorded at 5, 10 and 15 min.
Results: Study depicted an incidence of 32.
Background And Aims: Intra-cuff pressure of Air-Q self-pressurized laryngeal airways (Air-Q SP) balances airway pressure and adapts to patient's pharyngeal and periglottic structures, thus improves oropharyngeal leak pressure (OLP).This study was performed to compare efficacy of Air-Q SP with Proseal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA) in patients undergoing elective surgery.
Material And Methods: The study design was prospective, randomized and controlled.
Background And Aims: This study assessed the applicability of C-MAC videolaryngoscope (VL) D-blade for awake intubation in patients with laryngeal tumour. The primary study objective was to determine the rate of successful intubation in the first attempt. The other parameters recorded were number of attempts required for intubation, duration of different stages of intubation, haemodynamics, ease of intubation and patient comfort on visual analogue scale (VAS) postoperatively.

The aim of this study was to compare low dose norepinephrine infusion with phenylephrine to see the effect on umbilical arterial pH and maternal blood pressure during spinal anaesthesia for caesarean delivery.
Methods: In a randomised, double-blind study, 60 parturients belonging to American Society of Anesthesiologists grade II, age 18-35 years with singleton term pregnancy were divided into the phenylephrine group and norepinephrine group.
Background: The angulated C-MAC D-Blade videolaryngoscope (VL) is designed for difficult intubation and may not be compatible with standard PVC endotracheal tubes.
Objective: Present study was planned to compare efficacy of C-MAC, D-blade VL using endotracheal tube with three different stylets versus No stylet in patients undergoing tracheal intubation with simulated difficult airway.
Methods: After obtaining written consent and IEC approval, total 144 adult patients were allocated to four groups of 36 each using no stylet or different types of stylets.

Background And Aims: The Air-Q blocker (Cook gas LLC, Mercury Medical, Clearwater, FL, USA) is a relatively new supraglottic airway device (SAD) with capability to serve as a conduit for intubation. As there is limited data on Air-Q blocker, the present study was performed to compare the efficacy of Air-Q blocker and Proseal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA) in patients undergoing elective surgery.
Methods: A total of 90 American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I and II patients were randomly allocated to Air-Q blocker or PLMA group.
Background And Aims: Ambu Aura-i was compared with Fastrach™ (FT)-laryngeal mask airway (LMA) as a conduit for tracheal intubation.
Material And Methods: A hundred consenting patients were randomly allocated into two groups of 50 patients each in a prospective randomized study. Standard anesthesia technique was used for all patients and FT-LMA or Ambu Aura-i was selected.
Objective: The single-use LMA Supreme (Teleflex, Inc., Wayne, PA, USA) and the LMA ProSeal (Teleflex, Inc., Wayne, PA, USA) laryngeal mask airway (LMA) have similar characteristics.

Under normal conditions a specific protease cleaves all PCT to calcitonin, katacalcin and an N-terminal residue and hence in healthy individual PCT levels are either too low or undetectable. However, in severe bacterial infections or septic conditions, intact PCT is found in the blood and the concentrations of PCT may reach up to 1000 ng/ml.

Design: Double-blind randomized controlled study.
Setting: Tertiary-care hospital, July 2009 to June 2010.
Background: Intraoperative depth of anesthesia may affect postoperative pain relief. This prospective, randomized, and observer-blinded study assessed the effect of intraoperative depth of anesthesia on the postoperative pain and analgesic requirements in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
Materials And Methods: A total of 80 patients were randomly divided into two groups of 40 each.
Background: The Truview EVO2™ laryngoscope is a recently introduced device with a unique blade that provides a magnified laryngeal view at 42° anterior reflected view. It facilitates visualization of the glottis without alignment of oral, pharyngeal, and tracheal axes. We compared the view obtained at laryngoscopy, intubating conditions and hemodynamic parameters of Truview with Macintosh blade.
