We sampled abiotic and food web components in an impacted estuarine system to assess the transfer and fate of rare earth elements (REE). REE (based on dry weight) were measured in sediments, suspended particulate matter (SPM), and organisms from different trophic levels. The highest ∑REE concentrations were measured in sediments (180 ± 4.

Thus, the assessment of total contents and bioaccessibility is important to better understand the actual intake of nutrients or contaminants present in foods. The objective of this study was to determine the total content and estimate the bioaccessible fraction of Cu, Fe, and Zn in nutritious flours by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP OES) after microwave acid digestion.

We compared the occurrence of pellets between oceanic and sheltered beaches and the effect of fluvial contribution on the occurrence of these microplastics. The number of pellets found was surprisingly low (i.

Background: The simultaneous administration of drugs with food can compromise the bioaccessibility and absorption of nutrients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the use of losartan potassium (LP), metformin hydrochloride (MH), and simvastatin (S) on the in vitro bioaccessibility of micronutrients (Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn) in oat flour from Bahia, Brazil.
Methods: The experimental procedure consisted of the in vitro extraction of the bioaccessible fraction of Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn in oat flour-with and without LP (50 mg), MH (500 mg), and S (20 mg)-using the unified bioaccessibility method (UBM), simulating the conditions of the gastrointestinal tract.
The role of seagrass meadows in the cycling and accumulation of rare earth elements and yttrium (REEY) is unknown. Here, we measured the concentration of REEY in the different compartments of Halodule wrightii (shoots, rhizomes, and roots) and soils in seagrass meadows near sandy beaches, mangroves, and coral reefs in the Todos os Santos Bay, Brazil. We provide data on the accumulation dynamics of REEY in seagrass compartments and demonstrate that plant compartments and soil properties determine accumulation patterns.

Here, we aimed to identify through in vitro bioaccessibility tests whether Gd-CAs can be potentially assimilated by humans after oral uptake and if there is a significant difference between contrast agents. We also roughly estimated the potential bioaccessibility of anthropogenic Gd for tap waters worldwide.

The Joanes River is located in the northeast of Brazil, crosses the Camaçari Petrochemical Complex, the largest integrated industrial complex in the Southern Hemisphere, which has over 90 companies in the chemical and petrochemical industry. The present study aims to evaluate spatial distribution, seasonal variation and identify possible sources of trace metal contamination in surface water samples of the Joanes River. Samples were collected in the dry (December 2018) and rainy (August 2019) seasons.

It can be assessed through the evaluation of access to health services and programs. The creation of the Brazilian Unified Health System expanded access to healthcare for the entire Brazilian population.

The flow manifold was coupled on-line to an inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP OES) for real-time elucidation of the bioaccessible elemental fraction of micronutrients (viz., Cu, Fe and Mn) in food commodities across the gastrointestinal tract.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae immobilized in agarose gel is proposed as a binding agent for the diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) technique for determination of Pb in river water and seawater. DGT samplers were assembled with the proposed binding agent (25-mm disk containing 20%, m/v, S. cerevisiae and 3.

Methods: Eighteen preterm infants in conventional mechanical ventilation were submitted to one session of chest physiotherapy (manual chest compression during expiration + intermittent aspiration of intratracheal cannula). Mean airway resistance and dynamic compliance measurements were taken prior to, 10, 40 and 70 minutes after intervention using a pneumotachograph with graphic display (Newport Navigator GM-250®), coupled to a flow transducer (Varfley-Bicore®).
