Objective: To determine the proportion of patients diagnosed with cervical cancer or cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or 3 (CIN 2/3) despite testing negative for HPV.
Methods: A prospective study was conducted at a university hospital in Barcelona, Spain, between March 2003 and January 2015 among women with abnormal cytology results according to the Bethesda classification system. All participants underwent HPV testing, cytology, and colposcopy.
Currently, cryopreservation of oocytes, embryos and ovarian tissue is considered the basis of fertility preservation programs for women with cancer and other diseases who are rendered sterile by gonadotoxic drugs or radiation.Numerous studies have confirmed that autograft of frozen-thawed ovarian tissue can restore ovarian function and fertility. A total of twenty-two live births have been reported but we still have to consider this technique as experimental.

This didactic change was carried out under the auspices of the Asociación Española de Patología Cervical y Colposcopia and the Sociedad Española Ginecología y Obstetricia and its Resident Section.
Study Design: This is an observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study.
There is a controversy among different scientific societies in relation to the recommendations on whether universal screening for the detection of thyroid dysfunction during gestation should be performed or not. Although various studies have shown an association between subclinical hypothyroidism or hypothyroxinemia with obstetric problems and/or neurocognitive impairment in the offspring, no evidence on the possible positive effects of treatment of such conditions with thyroxin has been demonstrated so far. However, there is a general agreement about the need for treatment of clinical hypothyroidism during pregnancy and the risks of not doing so.

Diagnostic and surgical hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that makes an accurate diagnosis of malignant intrauterine pathology and could play a role in the diagnosis of the uterine sarcomas. Uterine sarcomas diagnosed at the Department of Gynecology of Sant Joan University Hospital by hysteroscopy between January 2004 and August 2010 are described.

We determined the effect of cord blood collection before placental expulsion on postpartum maternal blood loss in a retrospective study between a group of cord blood donors and a group of non-donors. The study was conducted in a university hospital blood bank and obstetric services and included Spanish women entered in a European study project (EUPHRATES) and who had consented to donate cord blood for public banking purposes. We measured blood volume lost during delivery by a bag collection method, as well as the need for transfusion and postpartum anemia symptoms.

Granulosa cell tumors (GCTs) of the ovary are an uncommon type of ovarian cancer, representing only 2-5%. Frequently, their tumoral cells present some features of normal granulosa cells, like hormonal production. As a consequence, this neoplasia can be diagnosed either by common ovarian cancer symptoms or endometrial pathologies due to an estrogenic effect.

Purpose Of Investigation: To determine which factors may increase the risk that women diagnosed with CIN I may later develop CIN II-III.
Methods: A prospective study of 174 women with a grade 1 intraepithelial lesion (CIN I) confirmed by biopsy, with a follow-up time of at least one year. The following factors were studied: age, HPV infection, HPV infection by a high-risk genotype, the HPV genotypes involved, coinfection by several HPV genotypes and duration of follow-up.
Introduction: A case of giant meconium pseudocyst secondary to ileum volvulus perforation is presented. Conventional radiographic features of meconium peritonitis with secondary meconium pseudocyst formation are well described. Our case is unusual in comparison to other cases reported in the literature and needs to be reported because the meconium pseudocyst presented without the typical ultrasound features (calcifications, polyhydramnios and ascites) and was initially identified as an abdominal mass.

It usually affects young women and is distinguished from other adenocarcinomas by its generally good prognosis, since it infrequently invades the lymphovascular space. We present a case of villoglandular papillary adenocarcinoma in a 28-year-old woman presenting risk factors for developing it: use of oral contraceptives, tobacco use, and infection with human papillomavirus types 16 and 33.

The aim of this study was to assess circulating HPC in cord blood at different gestational ages and shortly after birth and concomitantly study the biologic markers involved in this phenomenon.
Methods: All samples were analyzed for CD34(+) cells, colony-forming units (CFU) and cytokines.
Objective: To identify the prevalence of human papillomavirus vaccine genotypes and non-vaccine genotypes implicated in the appearance of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2-3).
Methods: Prospective study of 519 women with abnormal cytology. All the women underwent a second Papanicolaou test, cervicovaginal sampling for type-specific HPV detection and colposcopy, and women with abnormal colposcopy results were referred to biopsy.

Cervical cancer associated with pregnancy is rare (0.05%), although it is the most frequently diagnosed malignancy in pregnant women. We present the case of a 28-year-old woman at 25 weeks of gestation diagnosed with Stage 1B cervical cancer.

Material And Methods: A retrospective study of 285 women who received surgical treatment for cervical SIL between 2003 and 2006 was carried out. Prior to treatment, all the women underwent cervicovaginal cytology, colposcopy, and HPV testing.

Objective: To identify risk factors for the appearance of vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN).
Material And Methods: A total of 485 women with abnormal cytologies were followed over three years (2003-2006). They underwent cytolology and colposcopy, and testing for human papillomavirus virus (HPV) infection.
Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is associated with an increase in intraepithelial lesions of the genital tract which are often multicentric. Following is a presentation of a case of vulvar cancer in a young woman (25 years of age) with multiple vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN III) lesions, a high-grade squamous intraepithelial cervical lesion, and a HPV type 16 infection at high risk of oncogenic transformation. This case offers an opportunity to discuss the risk factors that may favor the appearance of these lesions in young women, and their clinical management, diagnosis, and treatment.

Purpose Of Investigation: To determine the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in women with abnormal cytology results.
Methods: A prospective study of 215 women with abnormal cytology results referred consecutively to the cervical pathology clinic was carried out. A second cervical cytology using the Bethesda System was performed on all the patients to confirm the initial diagnosis, as well as to test for the presence of HPV by PCR and a colposcopy and punch biopsy in cases presenting with an abnormal pattern on colposcopy.

Aims: To study the predictive value for preterm delivery of colonization of the cervix and vagina by ureaplasmas and other potentially pathogenic microorganisms.
Methods: Prospective analysis of a study group of 200 pregnant women with preterm labor and intact membranes, and a control group of 50 pregnant women. The subjects in both groups were between 24 and 34 weeks of gestation.
Objective: The influence of hormone therapy on the induction or the promotion of breast cancer has yet to be determined. Recent studies establish a cause-effect relation between hormones and cancer, although epidemiological data and studies of tumor behavior give rise to doubts. The aim of the study was to observe and evaluate the influence of different hormonal environments on the induction of breast cancer in a well-established experimental model.
