This burden has instigated a search for viable means to guide postoperative prescription decision-making. The Opioid Risk Tool (ORT) and the Screener and Opioid Assessment for Patient with Pain (SOAPP) are validated risk assessment tools to predict opioid usage in high-risk populations.

Background: In the realm of shoulder surgery, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR) is one of the most painful procedures and is often associated with higher opioid consumption. Methods: Eighty-five patients who underwent shoulder surgery anonymously completed a 27-question survey adapted from the Maryland Public Opinion Survey on Opioids with additional demographics.

Background: Although it has been shown that Medicare populations have a higher overall rate of complications than those with private insurances for large cohort total joint studies, there is limited information comparing patient-reported outcomes (PROs) among private insurance patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of non-Medicaid insurance type on outcomes after shoulder arthroplasty.

Methods: This retrospective case-controlled study included 203 patients who underwent shoulder arthroplasty from 2012 to 2017 by a single surgeon.
