Background: Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare endocrine malignancy. An accurate diagnosis of ACC is of paramount importance as it greatly impacts the management and prognosis of a patient. However, the differentiation between early stage, low-grade ACC and adrenocortical adenoma (ACA) may not always be straightforward.

Thyrotoxic Atrial Fibrillation: Factors Associated with Persistence and Risk of Ischemic Stroke.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the commonest cardiovascular manifestations of thyrotoxicosis. A significant proportion of patients have persistent AF which may have long term consequences, for example, ischemic stroke.

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study in a regional hospital from January 2004 to June 2016 to examine the clinical characteristics and outcomes of thyrotoxic patients who presented with atrial fibrillation and to investigate possible factors associated with persistent atrial fibrillation and ischemic stoke.

Genetic and clinical characteristics of maturity-onset diabetes of the young in Chinese patients.

In Caucasians, maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is mostly caused by mutations in the hepatocyte nuclear factor (HNF)-1alpha (MODY3) and glucokinase (MODY2) genes. Most Japanese MODY patients, however, are not linked to known MODY genes. In this study, we examined the genetic and clinical characteristics of Chinese subjects with MODY.
