Article Synopsis
  • This study analyzed the chemical composition and toxicity of methanolic extracts from three different Algerian propolis samples collected in Oum el Bouaghi, El Harrouch, and Collo regions.
  • Using GC-MS, researchers identified key compounds: MEPO had ferulic acid, MEPH contained pinostrobin chalcone, and MEPC was rich in 1-heptatriacotanol.
  • The toxicity tests with brine shrimp showed that all extracts were moderately toxic, with MEPC being the most toxic (LC of 201.61 µg/mL), but none were toxic at concentrations of 25 µg/mL or lower.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to validate a modified version of the UK Working Party diagnostic criteria for atopic dermatitis (AD) in Tunisia, addressing concerns about low sensitivity among local patients.
  • Conducted over 18 months, the research involved 156 AD patients and 156 controls, diagnosing cases through two specialized dermatologists and adapting the UK criteria to fit Tunisian epidemiological characteristics.
  • Results showed the modified criteria significantly improved sensitivity (89.1%) while maintaining high specificity and predictive values, suggesting it could be a practical tool for diagnosing AD in Tunisia.

Breast cancer is a common cancer and is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. Studies have shown that breast cancer is a heterogeneous tumor with varying response to treatments. The clinical use of doxorubicin (Dox) in the treatment of cancer is limited by its cardiotoxicity which results in often fatal heart failure and the development of multidrug resistance.

Tinea capitis (TC) is a common infectious disease throughout the world, mainly seen in children, but it can occur in adults. Even if mycological examination is essential to confirm the diagnosis, it has been proved that trichoscopy is a very effective useful tool in the screening of TC. Herein, we report two cases of adult TC with atypical clinical presentations causing a diagnostic delay of several years.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a heterogeneous disease. Thus, it is difficult to set up standard diagnostic criteria that cover the entire spectrum of AD patients. Our objectives were to study the epidemiologic characteristics of AD in Tunisia and to evaluate five diagnostic criteria (Hanifin and Rajka, Williams, Taieb and Boralevi, REACH and ISAAC questionnaire).

In this study, we have investigated the effect of an antioxidant probiotic pretreatment toward an overdose of diclofenac in rats (100 mg/kg bw). Rats were treated daily with the probiotic Streptococcus salivarius St.sa (10 CFU) during seven successive days and then received a single treatment with diclofenac overdose in distilled water.

Oxidative stress is involved in the pathogenesis of ischemia-reperfusion during myocardial transplantation. Therefore, graft preservation solutions may be improved by supplementation with antioxidants to minimize graft dysfunction caused by cold ischemic injury. Propolis is a polyphenol-rich substance which has an important antioxidant activity.

Antiandrogens have a peculiar place in the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer by blocking the androgen receptor (AR). Unfortunately, aggressive tumors could rapidly develop into a castration resistant state. It is therefore essential to look for new molecules that are more effective, affecting not only the androgen signaling and with minimum undesirable effects.
