New routes towards azomethine ylide generation from prolines to synthesize diverse -heterocycles: a DFT supported -selective mechanism.

Azomethine ylides are generated using either organocatalysts or metal catalysts a ballet of decarboxylative C-N coupling choreographed by prolines. These strategies enable diastereoselective [3 + 2] cycloaddition, C-C coupling, and ring annulation, providing sustainable routes. The synthesized pyrrolizines and other heterocycles have potential applications in the development of crucial biomolecules and pharmaceuticals.

Can LIGO Detect Nonannihilating Dark Matter?

Dark matter (DM) from the galactic halo can accumulate in neutron stars and transmute them into sub-2.5M_{⊙} black holes if the dark matter particles are heavy, stable, and have interactions with nucleons. We show that nondetection of gravitational waves from mergers of such low-mass black holes can constrain the interactions of nonannihilating dark matter particles with nucleons.

Improvement of rooting and growth in kiwifruit () cuttings with organic biostimulants.

Seaweed extracts have shown profoundly positive effects on crop growth, quality and reproduction in diverse agricultural and horticultural crops. Seaweed extracts can be used to promote the rooting and growth of cuttings in perennial fruit species like kiwifruit (). In this study, the cuttings were treated with 1, 5, 10 and 50% solutions of G Sap (), K Sap (), AN (), EM (), HA (Humic acid) and control (water) for 6 h as base dipping.

Synthesis of Quinoline Silyloxymethylsulfones as Intermediates to Sulfonyl Derivatives.

Heterocyclic sulfones, sulfonamides, and sulfonyl fluorides constitute an important structural motif in medicinal chemistry. Methods to make six-membered heteroaromatic sulfonyl compounds, however, remain challenging, and most efforts rely on commercial sulfonyl chlorides. We report herein the reaction of sodium -butyldimethyl silyloxymethylsulfinate with quinoline -oxides to selectively furnish C2-substituted sulfones.

Desulfinative Alkylation of Heteroarenes via an Electrostatic Electron Donor-Acceptor Complex.

Functionalized pyridine and quinoline rings are important components of numerous bioactive molecules and natural products; however, diversification of these rings often requires heterocycle ring synthesis or demanding reaction conditions. We report a method for desulfinative alkylation of pyridine and quinoline -methoxide salts that operates under both photocatalytic and electrostatic electron donor-acceptor-mediated pathways. Unlike most EDA-mediated processes, this reaction operates in the absence of light and with the desulfination of the donor compound.

Low Mass Black Holes from Dark Core Collapse.

Unusual masses of black holes being discovered by gravitational wave experiments pose fundamental questions about the origin of these black holes. Black holes with masses smaller than the Chandrasekhar limit ≈1.4  M_{⊙} are essentially impossible to produce through stellar evolution.

Neutrino and Positron Constraints on Spinning Primordial Black Hole Dark Matter.

Primordial black holes can have substantial spin-a fundamental property that has a strong effect on its evaporation rate. We conduct a comprehensive study of the detectability of primordial black holes with non-negligible spin, via the searches for the neutrinos and positrons in the MeV energy range. Diffuse supernova neutrino background searches and observation of the 511 keV gamma-ray line from positrons in the Galactic center set competitive constraints.

Primordial Black Holes as a Dark Matter Candidate Are Severely Constrained by the Galactic Center 511 keV γ-Ray Line.

We derive the strongest constraint on the fraction of dark matter that can be composed of low mass primordial black holes by using the observation of the Galactic Center 511 keV γ-ray line. Primordial black holes of masses ≲10^{15}  kg will evaporate to produce e^{±} pairs. The positrons will lose energy in the Galactic Center, become nonrelativistic, then annihilate with the ambient electrons.

Electrical conduction in gold nanoparticles embedded indium oxide films: a crossover from metallic to insulating behavior.

Electrical conductivity of indium oxide and gold nanoparticles incorporated indium oxide films grown by dc sputtering have been studied in the temperature range 1.5 to 300 K. Films with 0, 6 and 12% gold nanoparticle volume fraction exhibit metallic nature in the temperature interval 1.

Heterocyclization involving benzylic C(sp)-H functionalization enabled by visible light photoredox catalysis.

A general and efficient method for heterocyclization involving benzylic C(sp)-H functionalization enabled by visible light photoredox catalysis to access a wide range of structurally diverse oxygen as well as nitrogen heterocycles up to a gram scale is reported. The potential application of this new methodology is demonstrated by the total synthesis of (-)-codonopsinine and (+)-centrolobine. Herein it is proposed that selectfluor, unlike a fluorinating reagent, acts as an oxidative quencher and a hydrogen radical acceptor.

Enhancement of Single Molecule Raman Scattering using Sprouted Potato Shaped Bimetallic Nanoparticles.

Herein, for the first time, we report the single molecule surface enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra with high signal to noise ratio (S/N) using plasmon-active substrates fabricated by sprouted potato shaped Au-Ag bimetallic nanoparticles, prepared using a new one-step synthesis method. This particular shape of the nanoparticles has been obtained by fixing the amount of Au and carefully adjusting the amount of Ag. These nanoparticles have been characterized using scanning electron microscopy, extinction spectroscopy, and glancing angle X-ray diffraction.

DNA barcoding detects floral origin of Indian honey samples.

The unique medicinal and nutritional properties of honey are determined by its chemical composition. To evaluate the quality of honey, it is essential to study the surrounding vegetation where honeybees forage. In this study we used conventional melissopalynological and DNA barcoding techniques to determine the floral source of honey samples collected from different districts of the state of Mizoram, India.

Documentation of the emergence of Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) infection and economic losses incurred due to high mortality has been reported worldwide. The prevalence and genetic diversity of the virus has been reported in Northeast India including the possible chances of Classical swine fever virus (CSFV) vaccine failure in pig population in this region resulting in major disease outbreak. Irrespective of the genetic variability, the emergence of a novel cluster (based on the ORF2 phylogeny) was reported last year.

Immersive Virtual Reality Field Trips Facilitate Learning About Climate Change.

Across four studies, two controlled lab experiments and two field studies, we tested the efficacy of immersive Virtual Reality (VR) as an education medium for teaching the consequences of climate change, particularly ocean acidification. Over 270 participants from four different learning settings experienced an immersive underwater world designed to show the process and effects of rising sea water acidity. In all of our investigations, after experiencing immersive VR people demonstrated knowledge gains or inquisitiveness about climate science and in some cases, displayed more positive attitudes toward the environment after comparing pre- and post-test assessments.

Evidence of BVDV in Pigs from North Eastern Part of India- Genetic Profiling and Characterisation.

Introduction: The work has been attempted to detect and genetically characterise the nature of Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV) isolates from the porcine population of the north east.

Methods And Material: The samples have been collected over a two year period and are from areas where there is a mixed and integrated rearing of livestock in close proximity. The isolates were identified, cloned and sequenced using BVD specific genomic primers for two important domains viz.

Multi-PeV Signals from a New Astrophysical Neutrino Flux beyond the Glashow Resonance.

The IceCube neutrino discovery was punctuated by three showers with E_{ν}≈1-2  PeV. Interest is intense in possible fluxes at higher energies, though a deficit of E_{ν}≈6  PeV Glashow resonance events implies a spectrum that is soft and/or cutoff below ∼few PeV. However, IceCube recently reported a through-going track depositing 2.

Detection of classical swine fever virus E2 gene in cattle serum samples from cattle herds of Meghalaya.

The present study focused on the detection and genetic characterisation of 5' untranslated region (5'UTR) and E2 gene of classical swine fever virus (CSFV, family , genus ) from bovine population of the northeastern region of India. A total of 134 cattle serum samples were collected from organised cattle farms and were screened for CSFV antigen with a commercial antigen capture enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (Ag-ELISA) and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). A total of 10 samples were positive for CSFV antigen by ELISA, while all of them were positive in PCR for 5'UTR region.

Porcine circovirus 2 in the North Eastern region of India: Disease prevalence and genetic variation among the isolates from areas of intensive pig rearing.

Porcine Circovirus type-2 (PCV-2) is considered as a major threat to the piggery sector in India. To ascertain the epidemiological status and infection level of PCV2, a pilot study was undertaken to find out the prevalence of PCV2 in swine population by ELISA and PCR in the interior and border areas of Meghalaya which includes the area where accessibility and medical aid is a rare phenomenon. A total of 249 serum samples were collected from October 2014 to February 2016 from three divisions of Meghalaya: Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills Divisions.

Numerical investigations on photonic nanojet mediated surface enhanced Raman scattering and fluorescence techniques.

Finite element method simulations have been carried out on the photonic nanojet (PNJ) mediated surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique for the first time, and this technique has been found to provide (i) better Raman scattering enhancement of single molecules and (ii) a long working distance between the microscopic objective lens and sample, as compared with the conventional SERS technique. A PNJ mediated surface enhanced fluorescence (SEF) technique has been proposed to enhance the fluorescence of single molecules using the combination of localized surface plasmons inside nanostructures and the PNJ of a dielectric microsphere (MS), and this technique is numerically proved to be efficient as compared with a conventional SEF technique. Moreover, the generation of a PNJ from single lollipop shaped microstructures and its applications in the above mentioned techniques have been reported.

Present study compares two composite honey metagenome collected from 20 samples in Mizoram, Northeast India using three gene loci- rbcL, matK and ITS2 that was sequenced using a next-generation sequencing (NGS) platform (Illumina Miseq).

On the recovery of horsehair worms, sp. (Nematomorpha: Gordiida) from pork in Shillong, India.

The members of the phylum Nematomorpha, called as horsehair or gordian worms, are the parasites of arthropods and emerge from their host for reproduction and early development in water. There are about 360 species of nematomorphs described till date. Although, horsehair worms are parasites of arthropod species, sporadic cases of their occurrence have also been reported from several other hosts, including man.
