Shared medical appointments (SMA) help patients learn skills to self-manage chronic medical conditions. While this model of care delivery is thought to improve access to care with an efficient use of healthcare providers' time, many healthcare teams struggle to implement this healthcare model. Guidance and training resources on the implementation of SMAs is expected to improve adoption, implementation and sustainability of SMAs.

Low total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) values were obtained in water and sediments from the locations without direct oil loading across the 6-year monitoring program. Biogenic n-alkanes and pyrogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were predominant pre- and post-spill.

It is unknown whether HF-SMAs can improve overall and cardiac health status for high-risk patients with HF discharged from acute care.
Methods And Results: A 3-site, open-label, randomized-controlled-trial was conducted.
Nurs Leadersh (Tor Ont)
January 2023
The Black Nurses Leadership Institute launched in May 2022 to provide a community-driven and leadership training program for nurses and nursing students who identify as Black and/or of African descent (Black Nurses Leadership Institute 2022). The aim of the program is to acknowledge and address the presence of a "black ceiling" that can often challenge and impede professional advancement for Black nurses in traditionally white-dominated healthcare leadership systems (Erskine et al. 2021; McGirt 2017).

Proprotein convertase subtilsin/kexin type 9 inhibitors (PCSK9i) efficiently lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels; however, use in PAD and CeVD patients is limited. Therefore, our aim was to evaluate the use of PCSK9i among US Veterans and compare rates between patients with PAD, CeVD, and coronary artery disease (CAD).

In humans, there is a sex difference in body fat distribution, and steroid hormones are known to regulate several cellular processes within adipose tissue.
Objective: Our aim was to investigate if intra-adipose steroid concentration and expression or activity of steroidogenic enzymes were associated with features of adipose tissue dysfunction in individuals with severe obesity.
Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), n-alkanes, petroleum biomarkers, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were analyzed in the sediments collected from the shorelines and bottom of St. Clair River, Ontario, Canada. Most of the sampling sites had low TPH (< 20 μg/g).

Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), n-alkanes, petroleum biomarkers, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were analyzed for the intertidal sediments taken from the shorelines of the Delta area, British Columbia, Canada, to establish the baseline background data. Most of the sampling sites had low TPH (< 40 μg/g); only two samples had TPH from 100 to 150 μg/g.

Emerging evidence suggests that an android body fat distribution in particular is deleterious for breast cancer prognosis. The extent of adipose tissue dysfunction, especially how it relates to breast cancer prognostic factors and anthropometric measurements, has not been fully investigated.

Most of the sampling sites had low TPH (<40 μg/g). Only 10% of sampling sites, located nearby a harbour and densely populated areas, had relatively high TPH (<260 μg/g).

The principal objective of this study was to assess the impact of a strategy of catch-up DT-IPV vaccination during hospitalization in people over the age of 65 years in central France (the Sarthe region). We performed a prospective, single-center, cluster-randomized study (four hospital wards).

Husky oil-free, mixed sediment-Husky oil, and Husky oil debris samples were identified for all the collected samples. Shoreline sediments were contaminated by mixed biogenic, pyrogenic and petrogenic inputs prior to the spill.

The contribution of steroid hormones produced by adjacent adipose tissue for the progression and survival of breast tumors is unknown.
Objective: To quantify estrogens (estradiol, estrone) and glucocorticoids (cortisol, cortisone) in breast adipose tissue from both healthy and diseased women and their relationships with adiposity indices and breast cancer prognostic markers.
The presence of estrogens, androgens and glucocorticoids as well as their receptors and steroid converting enzymes in adipose tissue has been established. Their contribution to diseases such as obesity, diabetes and hormone-dependent cancers is an active area of research. Our objective was to develop a LC-MS/MS method to quantify bioactive estrogens and glucocorticoids simultaneously in human adipose tissue.

Sites close to the harbour and more densely populated areas had higher TPH levels than other pristine areas. n-Alkanes presented a typical single bell-shape in n-C to n-C range and an obvious odd to even carbon preference.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA primary goal of this research project is to better understand how shared medical appointments (SMAs) can improve the health status and decrease hospitalization and death for patients recently discharged with heart failure (HF) by providing education, disease state monitoring, medication titration, and social support to patients and their caregivers. We propose a 3-site randomized-controlled efficacy trial with mixed methods to test a SMA intervention, versus usual care. Patients within 12 weeks of a HF hospitalization will be randomized to receive either HF-SMA (intervention arm) with optional co-participation with their caregivers, versus usual care (control arm).

Our objective was to determine if intact, flash-frozen whole adipose tissue samples stored at - 80 °C could be used for measurements developed for fresh-fixed adipose tissues. Portions of adipose tissue samples were either formalin-fixed immediately upon sampling or flash-frozen and stored at - 80 °C and then formalin-fixed during the thawing process.

The TPH levels, n-alkanes, petroleum biomarkers and PAHs in all the sampling sites, except for Masset Harbor/York Point at Gil Island were low, without obvious unresolved complex mixture (UCM) and petroleum contamination input. Specifically, n-alkanes showed a major terrestrial plants input; PAHs with abundant non-alkylated PAHs but minor APAHs showed a major pyrogenic input.

The latter includes immune cell infiltration and altered secretion of anti- and proinflammatory mediators, which contribute to systemic, low-grade inflammation. In this article, we review available literature documenting the impact of surgery-induced weight loss on macrophage infiltration and tissue expression or circulating levels of a broad spectrum of inflammatory mediators.
