Study Objective: To report and demonstrate a case of a laparoscopic repair of an intrauterine fallopian tube incarceration as complication of curettage.

Design: A step-by-step explanation of the surgery using video (instructive video) (Canadian Task Force classification III).

Setting: University Hospital Estaing, Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is often associated with psychopathological symptoms such as anxiety. This study evaluated the effects of the luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonist therapy leuprorelin acetate (LA) on anxiety and quality of life (QoL) over time in men with PCa.

Methods: This observational, non interventional, multicenter study was conducted in France.

Laparoscopic surgery technology continues to advance. However, much less attention has been focused on how alteration of the laparoscopic surgical environment might improve clinical outcomes. We conducted a randomized, 2 × 2 factorial trial to evaluate whether low intraperitoneal pressure (IPP) (8 mmHg) and/or warmed, humidified CO (WH) gas are better for minimizing the adverse impact of a CO pneumoperitoneum on the peritoneal environment during laparoscopic surgery and for improving clinical outcomes compared to the standard IPP (12 mmHg) and/or cool and dry CO (CD) gas.

Background: During cancer, coping strategies adopted by patients with prostate cancer and their spouses have an effect on their own emotional state and quality of life (QoL). However, the effects of coping strategies used by a member of a couple on the well-being of the other member are unknown. The aim of this study is to examine the dyadic effects of coping strategies on the emotional state and QoL of couples dealing with cancer.

Uterine torsion is a rare obstetrical complication whose diagnosis remains challenging. We report a case of 180 degrees dextrogyre torsion at 36(+5) weeks of gestation complicated by partial abruption and in utero fetal death. Emergency cesarean section was performed through an unintentional posterior hysterotomy.

Among psychosocial factors affecting emotional adjustment and quality of life, social support is one of the most important and widely studied in cancer patients, but little is known about the perception of support in specific significant relationships in patients with cancer. This study examined the psychometric properties of the Quality of Relationship Inventory (QRI) by evaluating its factor structure and its convergent and discriminant validity in a sample of cancer patients. A total of 388 patients completed the QRI.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Caregivers Quality of Life Cancer index scale (CQoLC) in a sample of spouses of French cancer patients.

Methods: The CQoLC, the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form 12 (MOS SF-12) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) were administered to 300 spouses aged 21-85 years. Clinical data such as severity of cancer, medical treatment and duration of illness were obtained from a review of medical records.

We explore the psychometric properties of the French version of the Ways of Coping Checklist Revised (WCC-R) for a cancer patient sample. The WCC-R was completed by 622 patients and 464 completed the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) on the original factor structure did not fit the data.

We report a case of per anaesthesia malignant hyperthermia (MH) arisen in a 16-year-old young man presenting antecedents of five anaesthesia with use of halogenated agents without complication and having started a typical crisis of MH after five hours of anaesthesia with sevoflurane and with recurrence of the crisis after 14 hours in ICU. The association in the same clinical case of these three peculiarities of the crisis of MH already described separately in the international literature allows us to insist on their importance, with the French-speaking anaesthesiologists community.

To get more insight into plant cell response to cadmium (Cd) stress, both proteomic and metabolomic "differential display" analyses were performed on Arabidopsis thaliana cells exposed to different concentrations of the toxic chemical. After a 24 h treatment, soluble proteins extracted from untreated and treated cells were separated by 2-D-PAGE and image analyses were performed to quantify and compare protein levels. Proteins up- and down-regulated in response to Cd were identified by MS and mapped into specific metabolic pathways and cellular processes, highlighting probable activation of the carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur metabolic pathways.

Metabolomics is considered as an emerging new tool for functional proteomics in the identification of new protein function or in projects aiming at modeling whole cell metabolism. When combined with proteome studies, metabolite-profiling analyses revealed unanticipated insights into the yeast sulfur pathway. In response to cadmium, the observed overproduction of glutathione, essential for the detoxification of the metal, can be entirely accounted for by a marked drop in sulfur-containing protein synthesis and a redirection of sulfur metabolite fluxes to the glutathione pathway.

Metabolomics, i.e., the global analysis of cellular metabolites, is becoming a powerful tool for gaining insights into biological functions in the postgenomic context.

This paper reports a liquid chromatographic/electrospray ionization mass spectrometric (LC/ESI-MS) method for profiling a wide range of structurally different sulfoconjugated compounds in urine and its application to the characterization of biomarkers for heavy metal toxicity in rat urine. Sulfoconjugates were first isolated by solid-phase extraction and the LC separation was performed on a reversed-phase column. Sulfoconjugates were detected in a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer by simultaneously monitoring constant losses of 80 u (or 80 Th for doubly charged ions), precursors of m/z 80 (SO(3) (-*)) and precursors of m/z 97 (HSO4-).

This work reports the use of reverse-phase liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ion trap (QIT) mass spectrometry for the analysis of the metabolome in rat urine. An injection of 20 microL of urine into the chromatographic system is followed by a slow gradient elution and mass spectrometric detection in the scanning mode from m/z 100-1000 in both positive and negative modes. Over a time scale of 90 min, 30 and 20 resolved peaks were observed in the positive and the negative modes, respectively, corresponding to the presence of a few hundred m/z ratios.

Background: Brugada syndrome is a rare condition causing sudden death in young adults due to unexpected sudden-onset ventricular fibrillation. Diagnosis is based on the presence of an ST depression in the anteroseptal territory and a right branch block. No underlying dysrhythmic condition or arrhythmogenic heart disease can be detected.

After the first tests of this vaccine in Egypt (1972) and in the Sudan (1973), two controlled tests in the field were performed in two high-risk areas for meningitis: --firstly, in the region of Koudougou (Upper-Volta), in November-December 1973 (17,300 vaccines). Its major aim was to solve operational and logistical problems; --secondly, in the Koutiala (Mali) area, according to a very strict schedule, in November-December 1975 and December 1975 (37,979 vaccines). The complete innocuousness of the vaccine was proven and excellent seroconversion was observed after its administration.

The duration of action of the drug Antemal, a combination of Pyrimethamine and Sulfametopyrazine, was eveluated in Bobo-Dioulasso, Upper Volta, West Africa, and endemic zone for Plasmodium falciparum malaria. The study was held during the season of maximum malaria transmission. 79 persons presenting with an acute attack of malaria were studied; 37 persons received a single dose of chloroquine sulfate (Nivaquine), at a dose of 15 mg.
