Long-term results of the Er-Yag laser used in stapes surgery.

Stapes surgery is performed using both conventional techniques and a variety of laser systems. The Er-Yag laser is a type of pulsation laser deemed by many to be the safest for ear surgery. The aim of this study was to assess the long-term effects of using the Er-Yag laser in stapes surgery and its impact on inner ear function.

[The rare case of fibroma of reticuloendothelial system of parapharyngeal space in fourteen year old girl].

The subject of our presentation is the case of a fourteen year old girl with rare histological type of histiocytoma malignum and with rare localisation of the primary neoplasm of the parapharyngeal space. Anatomopathology of histiocytoma fibrosum malignum and its clinical symptoms are described.

[Usefulness of aerosolotherapy in treatment of otolaryngological diseases].

Aerosolotherapy is a particularly useful method of treatment for otolaryngolgists because it is a procedure of local treatment within the affected region. Advantages of aerosolotherapy as well as indications and contraindications for aerosolotherapy in patients with otolaryngological diseases are described. Among the indications are: precancerous states located on vocal cords; pooperative states in the region of nose, throat and larynx; states after radiotherapy; mycosis of oral cavity, throat and larynx; The importance of additional techniques of aerosolotherapy such as: vibratory aerosols, additional hypertension and electroaerosols is emphasized.

[Aerosolotherapy as one of the supporting methods of treatment of patients with head and neck tumors].

In our paper distinctive features of aerosol-drugs and the types of inhalers are presented. The authors indicate the possibility of aerosolotherapy as one of the supporting methods of treatment of patients with head and neck tumors: pracancerous states of the larynx (pachydermy, leucoplaky); states after laser CO2--surgery of tumour T1 of the larynx; states after surgical treatment widening true glottis narrowed by the paresis of nerve recur caused the tumour of thyroid gland or neighbouring structures; states after total laryngectomy; states in the course of or after complementary radiotherapy after surgical treatment head and neck tumour. On the basis of studied cases, which were treated with aerosol-drugs in Aerosolotherapy Unit, Department of Otolaryngology Karol Marcinkowski University of Medical Sciences in Poznań (Poland) in 1992-1998 years usefulness of this method in the states mentioned has been proved.

Primary neoplasms of parapharyngeal space are rare. In this location the so called non-malignant tumors occur many times more than the malignant ones. In our paper, employing statistics, objective symptoms and complaints connected with these tumors were ordered according to frequency.

[Otitis media in patients with Down's syndrome].

There have been very few report about the important role which mucolytic drugs may play in the diseases of the upper respiratory tract. This paper undertakes the task of attempting to evaluate the usefulness of Mucosolvan preparation in laryngological diseases.

[The use of mucolytic preparations (Mucosolvan) in nasal and paranasal sinuses in children].

In recent years there has been observed an increase in the infections of nose cavity and paranasal sinuses. This phenomenon is connected with a multidirectional alergization of the environment also with the insufficiency of conservative and surgical treatment. Messerklinger's research concerning cilial movements of mucosa in nasal and paranasal sinuses together with his endoscopic experiments are the basic for modern therapy of nasal and paranasal sinuses.

[A rare case of carcinoma cuniculatum within the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses].

[Hearing impairment in children with Down's syndrome].
