Cumulative Deficits Frailty Index and Relationship Status Predict Survival in Multiple Myeloma.

Several tools have been proposed for assessing frailty in multiple myeloma (MM), but most are based on clinical trial datasets. There is also limited data on the association between frailty and patient-reported outcomes, and the prognostic value of social determinants of health. This study evaluates the prognostic impact of frailty, based on the cumulative deficit frailty index (FI), and relationship and socioeconomic status (SES) in newly diagnosed MM patients.

Retreatment of multiple myeloma with previously refractory drugs.

As patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) continue to live longer, they might get exposed to most available drugs and drug classes during the disease course. For such late line RRMM or among patients without access to novel therapies, retreatment with a drug that the disease had previously been refractory to might be one option. In this retrospective study, we describe 315 patients with RRMM at our institution who were retreated with a drug that the disease had been previously refractory to.

Purpose: Several lung function endpoints are utilized in clinical trials of inhaled bronchodilators for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Trough forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV) is a commonly reported endpoint in COPD trials and can be complemented by area under the FEV vs time curve (FEV AUC), which provides information on duration and consistency of bronchodilation over a dosing interval. Revefenacin, a once-daily bronchodilator, significantly improved lung function in patients with COPD when measured by trough FEV in two replicate Phase 3 trials.

Objectives: (1) To demonstrate feasibility and safety of surfactant administration via laryngeal mask airway (LMA) as a first-line therapy. HbA variability associated with dementia risk in people with type 2 diabetes.

Introduction: Although poor glycemic control is associated with dementia, it is unknown if variability in glycemic control, even in those with optimal glycosylated hemoglobin A (HbA) levels, increases dementia risk.

Methods: Among 171,964 people with type 2 diabetes, we evaluated the hazard of dementia association with long-term HbA variability using five operationalizations, including standard deviation (SD), adjusting for demographics and comorbidities.

Results: The mean baseline age was 61 years (48% women).

The current case series aims to investigate objective patient-reported change in apathy, disinhibition, depression, and executive dysfunction following anterior capsulotomy via M-LITT for OCD.

COVID-19 infection and incident diabetes in American Indian and Alaska Native people: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: Evidence suggests an increased risk of new-onset diabetes following COVID-19 infection. American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) people were disparately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and historically have had higher diabetes incidence than other racial/ethnic groups in the US. We measured the association between COVID-19 infection and incident diabetes in AI/AN people.

Impact of Resistance on Therapeutic Design: A Moran Model of Cancer Growth.

Resistance of cancers to treatments, such as chemotherapy, largely arise due to cell mutations. These mutations allow cells to resist apoptosis and inevitably lead to recurrence and often progression to more aggressive cancer forms. Sustained-low dose therapies are being considered as an alternative over maximum tolerated dose treatments, whereby a smaller drug dosage is given over a longer period of time.
