This study aims to assess the safety, virological, and clinical outcomes of convalescent plasma transfusion (CPT) in immunocompromised patients hospitalized for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We conducted a retrospective multicenter cohort study that included all immunosuppressed patients with COVID-19 and RNAemia from May 2020 to March 2023 treated with CPT. We included 81 patients with hematological malignancies (HM), transplants, or autoimmune diseases (69% treated with anti-CD20).

Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated the prevalence and factors influencing neuro-functional disability in adult patients 12 months after experiencing community-acquired bacterial meningitis (CABM).
  • Of the 281 patients analyzed, approximately 30% showed some form of neuro-functional disability after a year, with the most common cause being Streptococcus pneumoniae infection.
  • Key factors linked to lasting disability included having pneumococcal meningitis, physical disabilities at discharge, and behavioral disorders, while dexamethasone treatment didn't show a significant impact.

The coordination chemistry of a priori weakly σ-donating nitroaromatic phosphines is addressed through a series of nitro-substituted (N-phenyl-benzimidazol-1-yl)diphenylphosphines in Rh complexes. From a set of seven such phosphines L=L (x, y, z=0 or 1=number of NO substituents at the 5, 6 and N-Ph para positions, respectively), including the non-nitrated parent L and its dicationic N-methyl counterpart L ', three LRhCl(COD) and seven L RhCl(CO) complexes have been obtained in 72-95 % yield. Despite of a cis orientation of the L and CO ligands, the C=O IR stretching frequency ν varies in the expected sense, from 1967±1 cm for L to 1978±1 cm for L , and 2005 cm for L '.

Melioidosis is an infectious disease caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei, a bacterium endemic in Southeast Asia and northern Australia. In New Caledonia, sporadic cases were first described in 2005; since then, more cases have been identified. To improve our understanding of melioidosis epidemiology in New Caledonia, we compared the local cases and B.

Ductal plate malformations (DPM) present with a wide phenotypic spectrum comprising Von Meyenburg complexes (VMC), Caroli disease (CD), Caroli syndrome (CS), and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD). Variants in PKHD1 are responsible for ARPKD and CS with a high inter- and intra-familial phenotypic variability. Rare familial cases of CD had been reported and exceptional cases of CD are associated with PKHD1 variants.

Introduction: Data on clinical characteristics and outcomes of infective endocarditis (IE) in the Pacific are scarce.

Methods: Retrospective hospital-based study in New Caledonia, a high-income country, on patients aged over 18 years with definite IE according to the modified Duke criteria (2005-2010).

Results: 51 patients were included: 31 (60.

We aimed to evaluate parameters for their value as severity markers in hospitalized leptospirosis patients. We recruited 47 informed adult consenting patients and assessed a number of clinical, hematological, biochemical, and biological variables. Patients were sorted according to severity based on fatality or the requirement of mechanical ventilation or dialysis; the parameters studied were compared between groups on inclusion and the next day.

Objectives: Disseminated gonococcal infections (DGIs) are rare. We describe the characteristics of DGIs in France.

Methods: This is a 3-year retrospective analysis of DGI cases collected through two networks of microbiologists and infectious disease specialists in France between 2009 and 2011.

Background: Leptospirosis is a major public health concern in New Caledonia (NC) and in other tropical countries. Severe manifestations of the disease are estimated to occur in 5-15% of all human infections worldwide and factors associated with these forms are poorly understood. Our objectives were to identify risk factors and predictors of severe forms of leptospirosis in adults.

In New Caledonia, South Pacific, Acinetobacter baumannii is a nosocomial pathogen. OXA-23 carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii (CRAB) has been ranked third among all multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria at the main hospital of Nouméa in New Caledonia (24.

Purpose Of The Study: The present study reviews our experience of acute hematogenous osteomyelitis in 450 children over a period of 20 years from 1985 to 2004 at the Nouméa Territorial Hospital in New Caledonia. The objective was to formulate a new theory of the pathogenesis of this affection and to report our research on the disparity in the pathology between temperate countries and our own tropical Pacific area.

Patient And Methods: Only children with an initially normal X-ray and showing symptoms for less than one week were included in the study.

New Caledonia is an archipelago in the South Pacific with a high prevalence of acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease. Conducted in 2006, this study aimed at characterizing clinical manifestations and microbial features of isolates obtained from invasive Streptococcus pyogenes disease. Clinical and demographic data were collected prospectively.

Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CR-Ab) ranked third, with a frequency of 24.8%, among 202 strains of multidrug-resistant bacteria isolated from clinical samples in the main hospital of New Caledonia in 2004. All CR-Ab isolates were analysed by isoelectric focusing, conjugation, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis and PCR for the presence of carbapenemase genes.

Objective: Rituximab, an anti-CD20 biotherapy, has been effective against refractory and/or relapsing Wegener's granulomatosis (WG). But the frequency of and time to responses to rituximab, and its effects on various clinical WG manifestations remain to be thoroughly evaluated.

Methods: Retrospective study of 8 patients with refractory/relapsing WG.

We report a retrospective study of an epidemic of dengue in New-Caledonia (South Pacific) in 2003 among adult inpatients. The aim was to establish clinical and biological criteria for the severity of the infection at the time of admission. During 7 months, all inpatients older than 15 y having a laboratory-confirmed diagnosis of dengue fever (IgM or PCR) were included (n=170).

Between 1 February and 15 April 2002, 95 patients were admitted to Gaston Bourret Territorial Hospital (New Caledonia, France) for drainage of community-acquired soft tissue abscesses. Staphylococcus aureus was detected in 68 cases (72%). Two-thirds of the patients with S.

To describe characteristics of infective endocarditis (IE) in pacemaker (PM) recipients, including the annual incidence and exact localization of IE on PM leads, cardiac valves, or both, we prospectively analyzed 45 PM recipients from a group of 559 patients with definite IE who responded to a population-based survey conducted in France in 1999. Thirty-three patients had definite PM-lead IE (group I), and 12 had valvular IE without evidence of PM involvement (group II). The valvular structure was involved in almost two-thirds of IE cases among PM recipients.

Disseminated peritoneal tuberculosis accounts for 1-3% of tuberculosis disease, represented by high frequency of lung defects in endemic countries. The authors report one case in a 43-year-old woman, the initial interpretation of which, based on pleural and peritoneal exudate, showed suspected latero-uterine mass and significant elevated serum CA 125 level, mimicking disseminated ovarian carcinoma. Only after exploring laparotomy with biopsy was disseminated peritoneal tuberculosis identified, thus correcting the diagnosis.
