Importance: The 1-year results of the SECURE trial, a randomized trial comparing a restrictive strategy vs usual care for select patients with symptomatic cholelithiasis for cholecystectomy, resulted in a significantly lower operation rate after restrictive strategy. However, a restrictive strategy did not result in more pain-free patients at 1 year.
Objective: To gauge pain level and determine the proportion of pain-free patients, operation rate, and biliary and surgical complications at the 5-year follow-up.
This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (intervention). The objectives are as follows: To assess the benefits and harms of laparoscopic or robot-assisted pancreatoduodenectomy versus open pancreatoduodenectomy for people with benign, premalignant, and malignant disease.

Background: A textbook outcome for the management of uncomplicated cholecystolithiasis is the targeted clinical scenario and is characterized by no recurrent biliary colic, absence of surgical and biliary complications, and absence or relief of abdominal pain. The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of textbook outcomes after cholecystectomy and identify associated baseline factors.
Methods: Patients from 2 Dutch multicenter prospective trials between 2014 and 2019 (SECURE and SUCCESS trial) were included.
This study evaluated the relationship between apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and tumor grades based on WHO, Adsay, and Kalimuthu classifications, using whole-mount pancreatectomy specimens. If glandular formation plays a key role in the degree of diffusion restriction, diffusion-weighted imaging could facilitate non-invasive grading of PDAC. A freehand region of interest (ROI) was drawn along tumor borders on the preoperative ADC map in each tumor-containing slice.

This study aims to assess the feasibility of implementing a multimodal prehabilitation program into the standard care of gynecological oncology patients at an academic hospital in terms of recruitment, adherence, and safety, which were assessed by the number of patients eligible, recruitment rate, participation rate, and adherence to individual modalities. Data were derived from the F4S PREHAB trial, a single-center stepped-wedge trial implementing a multimodal prehabilitation program among various surgical specialties.

Background: Laparoscopic surgery is the preferred option for many procedures. To properly perform laparoscopic surgery, it is essential that sudden movements and abdominal contractions in patients are prevented, as it limits the surgeon's view. There has been a growing interest in the potential beneficial effect of deep neuromuscular blockade (NMB) in laparoscopic surgery.

Clinical indications for adipose tissue therapy are expanding towards a regenerative-based approach. Adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction consists of extracellular matrix and all nonadipocyte cells such as connective tissue cells including fibroblasts, adipose-derived stromal cells (ASCs) and vascular cells. Tissue stromal vascular fraction (tSVF) is obtained by mechanical fractionation, forcing adipose tissue through a device with one or more small hole(s) or cutting blades between syringes.

This retrospective single-center study examined tumor and vessel radiomics to predict the resectability of PDAC in chemo-naïve patients. The tumor and adjacent arteries and veins were segmented in the portal-venous phase of contrast-enhanced CT scans, and radiomic features were extracted.

Methods: Because of scarcity of preoperative hand measurements, the authors performed a descriptional cross-sectional cohort study of patients operated on between 2006 and 2014, with a minimum of 5 years of follow-up. Patients were treated with PDI or LRTI.
Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the gold standard for treating biliary colic in patients with gallstones, but post-cholecystectomy abdominal pain is commonly reported. This study investigates which symptoms are likely to persist and which may develop after a cholecystectomy.
Methods: Patients from 2 previous prospective trials who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy for symptomatic cholecystolithiasis were included.
This study aimed to quantify the confirmation of gallstones on ultrasound (US) in patients with suspicion of gallstone disease. To aid general practitioners (GPs) in diagnostic workup, a model to predict gallstones was developed. A prospective cohort study was conducted in two Dutch general hospitals.

Background: International consensus on the ideal outcome for treatment of uncomplicated symptomatic gallstone disease is absent. This mixed-method study defined a Textbook Outcome (TO) for this large group of patients.
Methods: First, expert meetings were organised with stakeholders to design the survey and identify possible outcomes.
Unlabelled: In cases of isolated carpometacarpal (CMC) thumb joint osteoarthritis, a hemitrapeziectomy can be performed. To address the risk of subsidence of the first metacarpal, a pyrocarbon disc has been designed as an interposition prosthesis. The disc is made of pyrolytic carbon with the same elastic modulus as cortical bone, making it resistant to wear from surrounding bone.

This can be performed as an arthroscopic or open procedure, with suggested advantages for the less invasive arthroscopic technique. To determine which technique has better outcome on subjective and objective measures, the authors performed a prospective, randomized, controlled trial.

This insight would help to optimize treatment protocols and effectively ablate a tumor while controlling the occurrence of thermal effects. Various individual studies report the influence of variation in electroporation parameters on the ablation zone size or occurrence of thermal effects.

The intima disruption caused by a carotid dissection is a possible cause of extracranial carotid artery aneurysms (ECAAs). The aim was to investigate if carotid tortuosity is also associated with ECAA in patients without presence or history of a carotid artery dissection.

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the time of onset of post-dissection extracranial carotid artery aneurysms (ECAA) following CaAD, and to analyse independent risk factors for the development of these aneurysms.
Methods: From four European stroke centres, 360 patients with extracranial CaAD were included.
Purpose: Adequate TNM-staging is important to determine prognosis and treatment planning of duodenal adenocarcinoma. Although current guidelines advise contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) for staging of duodenal adenocarcinoma, literature about diagnostic tests is sparse.
Methods: In this retrospective single-center cohort study, we analyzed the real life performance of routine CECT for TNM-staging and the assessment of resectability of duodenal adenocarcinoma.
Purpose: For treatment of carpometacarpal thumb joint osteoarthritis, a trapeziectomy with an alternative suspension technique can be performed as the primary surgery or as the secondary after a failed primary surgery. This study evaluates the midterm follow-up (median, 54 months) for this technique using patient-reported outcome measures.
Methods: After trapeziectomy, an alternative suspension technique is performed with a flexor carpi radialis tendon strip.
Pyrocarbon disc interposition arthroplasty is an effective treatment for thumb base osteoarthritis. However, as with all implant techniques, the disc can (sub)luxate over time. The relationship between disc position, the experienced pain, and the necessity for revision surgery is not known.

With the FCR technique, a ligament reconstruction is performed in addition to disk fixation, whereas with the APL technique the disk is simply secured in place. Our aim is to compare long-term postoperative outcomes between both techniques.
