Developing Empathic Experienced Providers: An Innovative Multicomponent Dementia Curriculum.

Eighteen family nurse practitioner students completed the Developing Empathic Experienced Providers dementia curriculum improvement project. The purpose was to examine the effects of a multicomponent curriculum designed to develop providers willing to work with older adults and to identify curriculum gaps. The project statistically and practically improved dementia knowledge, t(17) = 8.

Pubertal timing as a predictor of epigenetic aging and mortality risk in young adulthood.

Early pubertal timing is associated with adverse health in adulthood. These effects may be mediated by DNA methylation changes associated with accelerated cellular aging and mortality risk, but few studies tested associations between pubertal timing and epigenetic markers in adulthood. Additionally, pubertal timing effects often vary by sex and are understudied in diverse youth.

"In the spectrum of people who are healthy": Views of individuals at risk of dementia on using neurotechnology for cognitive enhancement.

Neurotechnological cognitive enhancement has become an area of intense scientific, policy, and ethical interest. However, while work has increasingly focused on ethical views of the general public, less studied are those with personal connections to cognitive impairment. Using a mixed-methods design, we surveyed attitudes regarding implantable neurotechnological cognitive enhancement in individuals who self-identified as having increased likelihood of developing dementia (n=25; 'Our Study'), compared to a nationally representative sample of Americans (n=4726; 'Pew Study').

Adolescent empathy and epigenetic aging in adulthood: Substance use as a mediator.

Prosocial behavior during adolescence has been associated with better physical health, including slower epigenetic aging. However, little is known about the specific role of empathy in epigenetic aging and the mechanisms explaining this relationship. One such mechanism may be substance use, which is predicted by low empathy and contributes to accelerated epigenetic aging.

Examining Health Behaviors as Mechanisms Linking Earlier Pubertal Timing with Accelerated Epigenetic Aging in Late Adolescence.

Earlier pubertal timing is associated with accelerated epigenetic aging, but the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. This three-wave longitudinal study examined negative health behaviors, specifically substance use, short sleep duration, and poor diet quality in middle adolescence, as mediators of links between earlier phenotypic and perceived pubertal timing measured in early adolescence and epigenetic aging on three epigenetic clocks in late adolescence (GrimAge, DunedinPACE, and PhenoAge). Phenotypic pubertal timing measured physical pubertal maturation relative to chronological age, whereas perceived pubertal timing was based on adolescents' subjective interpretation of their pubertal timing relative to their peers.

Engaging Oncology and Occupational Medicine to Inform Design of a Total Worker Health® Intervention to Address Employment, Financial, and Well-being Outcomes in Cancer Survivors.

Objectives: Few Total Worker Health ® studies and fewer interventions examine well-being in the work context of cancer survivorship. We investigated the possibility of occupation and oncology professionals working together to address employed survivors' work-associated needs.

Methods: We employed a community-based participatory research approach to examine the educational, contextual, and workflow needs of oncology care team members to inform intervention design.

Moral identity in relation to emotional well-being: a meta-analysis.

Introduction: This meta-analytic review surveyed previous empirical studies that examined links between moral identity and indicators of emotional well-being. Additionally, this meta-analysis examined cultural origin as a moderator, testing if links between moral identity and emotional well-being differ in collectivistic vs. individualistic countries.

Leveraging chorionic villus biopsies for the derivation of patient-specific trophoblast stem cells.

Human trophoblast stem () cells are an informative in vitro model for the generation and testing of biologically meaningful hypotheses. The goal of this project was to derive patient-specific TS cell lines from clinically available chorionic villus sampling biopsies. Cell outgrowths were captured from human chorionic villus tissue specimens cultured in modified human TS cell medium.

Emergence and Genomic Characterization of a Type t4407 ST6-SCC Type IVa Methicillin-Resistant Strain Isolated from Al-Karak Hospital, Jordan.

: Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) is a major concern in Jordanian hospitals in terms of infection control. The purpose of this study was to identify the resistance patterns of strains isolated from surfaces of critical locations within the Al-Karak Governmental Hospital in 2019. Additionally, the study aimed to conduct whole-genome sequencing on the isolates.

Brain Pioneers and Moral Entanglement: An Argument for Post-trial Responsibilities in Neural-Device Trials.

We argue that in implanted neurotechnology research, participants and researchers experience what Henry Richardson has called "moral entanglement." Participants partially entrust researchers with access to their brains and thus to information that would otherwise be private, leading to created intimacies and special obligations of beneficence for researchers and research funding agencies. One of these obligations, we argue, is about continued access to beneficial technology once a trial ends.

Integration of Total Worker Health ® Training for Occupational Health and Safety Professionals With Efforts to Promote Worker Health, Safety, and Well-being in Mexico.

Objective: We sought to test whether a 2-week Total Worker Health (TWH) training mapped to TWH education competencies could be administered to a Mexican audience of occupational safety and health professionals and could lead to positive changes to knowledge and behaviors.

Methods: This study used robust program evaluation methods collected before and after each of the nine training days and at the end of the course.

Results: Overall course quality received a mean score of 4.

Concurrent and long-term effects of early pubertal timing on alcohol, cigarette, and cannabis use from adolescence to adulthood.

Objective: Early pubertal timing is a risk factor for substance use during adolescence. Fewer studies investigated whether early pubertal timing continues to predict substance use in late adolescence and adulthood, suggesting that long-term effects of pubertal timing vary across substances and by biological sex. Finally, existing studies on pubertal timing and substance use in adulthood involved predominantly White samples.

Teaching the Teacher: Implementing a Tool kit to Standardize Effective Preceptorship of Prelicensure Nursing Students.

Background: Faculty can support successful preceptor-led clinical experiences by providing registered nurses with educational resources to guide them in the preceptor role.

Purpose: To upgrade our institution's educational resources using an online platform that enables just-in-time access.

Method: This was a quality improvement project to create and implement an educational resource tool kit for prelicensure nursing preceptors.

Interpersonal school violence and mother-child communication about violence in relation to empathy in early adolescence.

Introduction: Exposure to interpersonal violence at school has been linked with lower empathy, but less is known about factors that may moderate this relationship. Positive parent-child communication has been associated with higher empathy during adolescence and children of parents that communicate their disapproval of violent behavior respond more peacefully in situations involving violence. Mother-child communication about violence may therefore reduce the risk of desensitization to violent behavior and promote empathy in youth that are frequently exposed to violence.

Fitting in a workgroup in unique ways: A latent profile analysis of perceived person-group fit characteristics.

Research has identified seven characteristics-value congruence, shared interests, perceived demographic similarity, needs-supplies match, goal similarity, common workstyle, and complementary attributes-on which group members simultaneously evaluate their perceived person-group (PG) fit. Most of extant research has focused on how each characteristic or them as a composite predicts outcomes. However, these variable-centered approaches fail to address how there may be subpopulations of members who differentially combine the PG fit characteristics and how such conjunctive effects differentially relate to various work outcomes.

Nanodiamond-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Nanodiamonds (ND) hold great potential for diverse applications due to their biocompatibility, non-toxicity, and versatile functionalization. Direct visualization of ND by means of non-invasive imaging techniques will open new venues for labeling and tracking, offering unprecedented and unambiguous detection of labeled cells or nanodiamond-based drug carrier systems. The structural defects in diamonds, such as vacancies, can have paramagnetic properties and potentially act as contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Can I Hold That Thought for You? Dementia and Shared Relational Agency.

Agency is talked about by many as something that people living with dementia lose, once they've lost much else-autonomy, identity, and privacy, among other things. While the language of loss may capture some of what transpires in dementia, it can obscure how people living with dementia and their loved ones share agency through sharing capacities for memory, language, and decision-making. We suggest that one consequence of adopting a framework of loss is that it makes the default response to changes in agency the substitution of a family member's agency for the purported lost agency of someone living with dementia.

The role of midbody-associated mRNAs in regulating abscission.

Midbodies function during telophase to regulate the abscission step of cytokinesis. Until recently, it was thought that abscission-regulating proteins, such as ESCRT-III complex subunits, accumulate at the MB by directly or indirectly binding to the MB resident protein, CEP55. However, recent studies have shown that depletion of CEP55 does not fully block ESCRT-III targeting the MB.

Influence of titanium nanoscale surface roughness on fibrinogen and albumin protein adsorption kinetics and platelet responses.

Biomaterials with nanoscale topography have been increasingly investigated for medical device applications to improve tissue-material interactions. This study assessed the impact of nanoengineered titanium surface domain sizes on early biological responses that can significantly affect tissue interactions. Nanostructured titanium coatings with distinct nanoscale surface roughness were deposited on quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) sensors by physical vapor deposition.

Disclosure of Exposure to Violence in Urban Adolescents.

Research has documented high rates of exposure to violence in urban African American adolescents together with their negative effects on psychosocial adjustment. Coping with violence exposure may be facilitated by disclosure of these experiences to others, but little is known about the extent to which youth disclose their various experiences with violence. This study examined the prevalence of disclosure of violence experienced as a witness or victim in different contexts or locations to parents, friends, siblings, teachers, counselors, and relatives.

Surveillance of Vermont wildlife in 2021-2022 reveals no detected SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA.

Previous studies have documented natural infections of SARS-CoV-2 in various domestic and wild animals. More recently, studies have been published noting the susceptibility of members of the Cervidae family, and infections in both wild and captive cervid populations. In this study, we investigated the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in mammalian wildlife within the state of Vermont.

A tryptophan metabolite modulates the host response to bacterial infection via kainate receptors.

Bacterial infection involves a complex interaction between the pathogen and host where the outcome of infection is not solely determined by pathogen eradication. To identify small molecules that promote host survival by altering the host-pathogen dynamic, we conducted an chemical screen using zebrafish embryos and found that treatment with 3-hydroxy-kynurenine protects from lethal gram-negative bacterial infection. 3-hydroxy-kynurenine, a metabolite produced through host tryptophan metabolism, has no direct antibacterial activity but enhances host survival by restricting bacterial expansion in macrophages by targeting kainate-sensitive glutamate receptors.

Parent-child relationship outcomes in a randomized controlled trial of housing first for indigenous and non-Indigenous parents experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and separation from their children.

Objective: To examine the impacts of Housing First (HF) on parent-child relationships for Indigenous and non-Indigenous parents experiencing homelessness and mental illness.

Method: Data on parent-child relationships were obtained through baseline and 18-month narrative interviews with parents ( = 43). Participants were randomly assigned to HF ( = 27) or treatment as usual (TAU; = 16).
