Based on magnetic-field-assisted growth of carbon nanofibers in an open ethanol flame we fabricated arrays of carbon nanofibers with different degrees of orientation. Inspired by the dry adhesive system of geckos we investigated the adhesive properties of such carbon nanofiber arrays with ordered and random orientation. AFM-based force spectroscopy revealed that adhesion force and energy rise linear with preload force.

Enrichment of leukemic blasts with a stem cell phenotype correlates with poor survival in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In this context, measurement of the stem cell marker aldehyde-dehydrogenase (ALDH) activity can distinguish poor prognosis cases with increased fractions of ALDH-positive cells (ALDH-numerous AML) and favorable outcome cases with low percentages (ALDH-rare AML). It has been shown that ALDH-numerous AML favor leukemic engraftment in xenotransplantation assays which suggests increased leukemic stem cell (LSC) potential.

Purpose: The potential benefits from respiratory gating (RG) compared to free-breathing (FB) regarding target coverage and dose to organs at risk for breast cancer patients receiving post-operative radiotherapy (RT) in the DBCG HYPO multicentre trial are reported.

There is renewed interest in anterolateral reconstruction (ALR) for patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. This is the result of isolated ACL reconstruction and double-bundle reconstruction providing inadequate control over the pivot shift, and recent anatomical and biomechanical studies on the anterolateral ligament (ALL) and its role in the knee's rotational stability. The branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) pathway and high levels of BCAA transaminase 1 (BCAT1) have recently been associated with aggressiveness in several cancer entities. However, the mechanistic role of BCAT1 in this process remains largely uncertain. Mutations in coiled-coil-helix-coiled-coil-helix-domain containing 10 (CHCHD10), a mitochondrial twin CX9C protein whose function is still unknown, cause myopathy, motor neuron disease, frontotemporal dementia, and Parkinson's disease. Here, we investigate CHCHD10 topology and its protein interactome, as well as the effects of CHCHD10 depletion or expression of disease-associated mutations in wild-type cells. We find that CHCHD10 associates with membranes in the mitochondrial intermembrane space, where it interacts with a closely related protein, CHCHD2.

Although much is known about factors contributing to variation in pediatric immunization uptake, there is a need for synthesis of effective vaccine promotion strategies. Background And Purpose: Local recurrence is frequent in locally advanced NSCLC and is primarily located in FDG-avid parts of tumour and lymph nodes. Aiming at improving local control without increasing toxicity, we designed a multi-centre phase-III trial delivering inhomogeneous dose-escalation driven by FDG-avid volumes, while respecting normal tissue constraints and requiring no increase in mean lung dose. Dose-escalation driven by FDG-avid volumes, delivering mean doses of 95Gy (tumour) and 74Gy (lymph nodes), was pursued and compared to standard 66Gy/33F plans.
