Background: Erythropoietin (EPO) measurements are useful in diagnosing anemias and polycythemias. We conducted a multisite evaluation of a monoclonal IMMULITE® EPO immunoassay.(1) DESIGN AND METHODS: The IMMULITE EPO assay is a solid-phase enzyme-labeled chemiluminescent immunometric assay.

The columns were evaluated by SEM and characterized with regard to the separation of diastereomers and α/β-isomers of aspartyl peptides. Column preparation was reproducible as evidenced by comparison of the analyte retention times of several columns prepared simultaneously.

Two lysine amide derivatives containing dansyl (Dns) or 7-dimethylaminocoumarin (DMAC) residues, i.e.

Using an acidic mobile phase, the peptides migrated due to their own electrophoretic mobility. Hydrophobic interactions with the stationary phase contributed to the separation.

Stationary phase optimized liquid chromatography (POPLC) has been applied to the separation of oligopeptides. The retention factors and theoretical plate numbers of 13 peptides were determined on five different stationary phases. Based on these values, an optimal stationary phase composition of 250mm total length consisting of 3 segments of 20mm octadecyl silica, 10mm phenyl silica and 220mm embedded polar octadecyl silica was calculated by the optimizer software.

The reaction yields the deacetylated protein, nicotinamide, and 2'-O-acetyl-ADP-ribose. Three 9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl (Fmoc)-labeled peptides derived from the amino acid sequence of p53, Fmoc-KK(Ac)-NH(2), Fmoc-KK(Ac)L-NH(2), and Fmoc-RHKK(Ac)-NH(2), were characterized as substrates for two of the human sirtuins: SIRT1 and SIRT2.

As is generally known, the writing movement reacts in a sensitive manner to numerous diseases, medications, stimulants and environmental poisons, as well as to psychic and physical influences. This reaction can occur quite early in the process. Therefore, laboratory data and the physical examination can be supplemented by the handwriting.

All since two hundred years closely contested hypotheses about the causes of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's death are to be verified and to be made credible by the same "original sources" in spite of considerable contrasts. In the present study it is tried to indicate the reasons for the multifariousness of the opinions and to represent Mozart's death as the consequence of a multifactorial process.

Supported by own investigations the sensible application of a rapid radiological determination in the practice of clinical toxicology is discussed. This should always be carried out, if solvent residues, gastric contents or gastric lavage fluid are available, a ingestion is suspected, and the result of chemical analysis is not promptly obtainable.

In our opinion there is no specific germ for multiple sclerosis. The pathogenic process is developed after a clinically "silent" period and results in a demyelinization process. Partially genetical aspects have to take into account for certain disease processes.

There are neither specific cell investigations nor immunological tests for the diagnosis of MS. Various immunological alterations occur in the course of the disease, but none is unique to MS. Accurate diagnosis remains confined to the clinical field.

The available defensive mechanisms are generally sufficient to protect the central nervous system (CNS) against the penetration of infectious particles. The blood-brain-barrier plays a decisive role in this process. The present paper represents the most important circumstances realizing that: 1.
