The risk of rupture of a left ventricular (LV) pseudoaneurysm ranges from 30% to 45% in the first year. Open surgical repair carries high mortality related to anatomic complexity and patient comorbidities. Percutaneous closure may offer a viable alternative to surgical intervention in this cohort.

Observation of direct-photon collective flow in Au + Au collisions at √s(NN)] = 200 GeV.

The second Fourier component v(2) of the azimuthal anisotropy with respect to the reaction plane is measured for direct photons at midrapidity and transverse momentum (p(T)) of 1-12 GeV/c in Au + Au collisions at √s(NN)] = 200 GeV. Previous measurements of this quantity for hadrons with p(T) < 6 GeV/c indicate that the medium behaves like a nearly perfect fluid, while for p(T) > 6 GeV/c a reduced anisotropy is interpreted in terms of a path-length dependence for parton energy loss. In this measurement with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider we find that for p(T) > 4 GeV/c the anisotropy for direct photons is consistent with zero, which is as expected if the dominant source of direct photons is initial hard scattering.

Exploring psychosocial support online: a content analysis of messages in an adolescent and young adult cancer community.

The increased usage of online cancer support groups as a resource for health-related information and social support has sparked numerous discussions about the role of online support in healthcare. However, little is known about the role of social-networking groups focused on supporting adolescents and young adults (AYAs) dealing with cancer. The current investigation report findings from a content analysis designed to explore how AYAs use an online support group to meet their psychosocial needs.

Caudal vena caval thrombosis following treatment of deep digital sepsis.

A diagnosis of caudal vena caval thrombosis was made by ultrasonography of a Holstein cow presented for lethargy and poor milk production. Medical treatment was unsuccessful and the cow was euthanized. The diagnosis was confirmed at necropsy and Fusobacterium necrophorum was isolated from the thrombus.

Peripheral pulmonary artery stenosis masquerading as pulmonary hypertension: a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.

Isolated peripheral pulmonary artery stenosis presenting in adulthood is an uncommon cause of right ventricular hypertension and may be misdiagnosed as primary or thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Treatment consists of balloon angioplasty and stenting of the affected vessels, although the procedure can be complicated by reperfusion pulmonary edema.

Age-related declines in the fidelity of newly acquired category representations.

We present a theory suggesting that the ability to build category representations that reflect the nuances of category structures in the environment depends upon clustering mechanisms instantiated in an MTL-PFC-based circuit. Because function in this circuit declines with age, we predict that the ability to build category representations will be impaired in older adults. Consistent with this prediction, we find that older adults are impaired relative to younger adults at learning nuanced category structures that contain exceptions to the rule.

Striatal and hippocampal entropy and recognition signals in category learning: simultaneous processes revealed by model-based fMRI.

Category learning is a complex phenomenon that engages multiple cognitive processes, many of which occur simultaneously and unfold dynamically over time. For example, as people encounter objects in the world, they simultaneously engage processes to determine their fit with current knowledge structures, gather new information about the objects, and adjust their representations to support behavior in future encounters. Many techniques that are available to understand the neural basis of category learning assume that the multiple processes that subserve it can be neatly separated between different trials of an experiment.

This comment applies the concept of Best Available Science (BAS) Metrics for Evaluation of Scientific Claims (MESC) derived from BAS to issues related to reliability of LNT hypothesis. Background: Quality assurance is increasingly important in the current health care climate. An electronic database can be used for tracking patient information and as a research tool to provide quality assurance for patient care.

Objective: An electronic database was developed for the Acute Pain Service, University of Alberta Hospital (Edmonton, Alberta) to record patient characteristics, identify at-risk populations, compare treatment efficacies and guide practice decisions.

Comparison of antemortem antimicrobial treatment regimens to antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of postmortem lung isolates from feedlot cattle with bronchopneumonia.

A retrospective study was performed to compare the treatment regimens in feedlot cattle that died with bovine respiratory disease (BRD) to the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of the microorganisms isolated from lungs. Forty-three cattle submitted by the Willard Sparks Beef Research Center (WSBRC) to the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory for postmortem examination during 2007 had bronchopneumonia (acute = 16, subacute = 5, or chronic = 22). Lymph node status remains one of the most useful prognostic indicators in breast cancer; however, current methods to assess nodal status disrupt the lymphatic system and may lead to secondary complications. Identification of molecular signatures discriminating lymph node-positive from lymph node-negative primary tumors would allow for stratification of patients requiring surgical assesment of lymph nodes. Primary breast tumors from women with negative (n = 41) and positive (n = 35) lymph node status matched for possible confounding factors were subjected to laser microdissection and gene expression data generated.

Transcatheter repair of Fontan baffle stenosis and fenestration in two patients using Cook Zenith aortic endografts.

Patients with Fontan baffles for single ventricle may have cyanosis from right-to-left shunt through leaks in the baffle or due to intentionally created fenestrations. Typically this right-to-left shunt may be addressed with catheter-based occlusion devices. However, in narrowing of the Fontan baffle, placement of occluders within the Fontan baffle may additionally narrow the pathway and is therefore undesirable.

A 5-year-old female spayed Shetland Sheepdog Mix dog was evaluated for a history of recent seizure activity, progressive hind limb ataxia, polyuria, and polydipsia and no history of gastrointestinal signs. Physical examination findings included conscious proprioceptive deficits, ataxia, and anterior uveitis along with a hypermature cataract in the right eye. Results of a CBC, serum biochemical profile, urinalysis, and computed tomography scan of the brain were unremarkable.

Measurements of higher order flow harmonics in Au+Au collisions at √s(NN)=200 GeV.

Flow coefficients ν(n) for n=2, 3, 4, characterizing the anisotropic collective flow in Au+Au collisions at √s(NN)=200 GeV, are measured relative to event planes Ψ(n), determined at large rapidity. We report ν(n) as a function of transverse momentum and collision centrality, and study the correlations among the event planes of different order n. The ν(n) are well described by hydrodynamic models which employ a Glauber Monte Carlo initial state geometry with fluctuations, providing additional constraining power on the interplay between initial conditions and the effects of viscosity as the system evolves.

In vitro evaluation of osteoblastic differentiation on amorphous calcium phosphate-decorated poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) scaffolds.

Calcium phosphate-decorated polyester matrices are promising scaffolds for bone tissue engineering that combine the tunable degradation of synthetic polymers and the osteoconductivity of calcium phosphate minerals. In this study, scaffolds decorated with stabilized amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) minerals-which exhibit sustained dissolution and release of calcium and phosphate ions-were tested for their ability to support osteoblast proliferation and stimulate differentiation. The two ACPs tested were zirconia-hybridized ACP (ZrACP), which releases ions over a few days and converts in aqueous solution to hydroxyapatite (HAP), and zinc-hybridized ACP (ZnACP), which has a longer period of sustained ion release.
