Background: An accurate knowledge of a patient's risk of cord-level intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) data loss is important for an informed decision-making process prior to deformity correction, but no prediction tool currently exists.
Methods: A total of 1,106 patients with spinal deformity and 205 perioperative variables were included. A stepwise machine-learning (ML) approach using random forest (RF) analysis and multivariable logistic regression was performed.
Conjoined twin patients with patent ductus arteriosus and hemodynamic repercussions have a worse prognosis. In the present case report, we demonstrate the first successful percutaneous closure of the ductus arteriosus with the Piccolo© device (Abbot Structural Heart, Plymouth, MN, USA) in this type of clinical situation.

Methods: The SVS Compensation Study Task Force developed a vascular surgery-specific survey between January 2023 and May 2023 including experience level, academic rank, bonuses, incentives, gender, race, ethnicity, geography, on-call pay, and other factors influencing overall reimbursement. After a soft launch on May 1, 2023, with an initial phase of SVS leadership engagement in completion, the survey was formally introduced to the SVS membership on June 14, 2023.
Kaolinite is a single 2D layer of kaolin or metakaolin (MK), common clays that can be characterized as layered 3D materials. We show that because of its chemical composition, kaolinite can be converted into an amorphous 3D material by chemical means. This dimensional transformation is possible due to the large surface to volume ratio and chemical reactivity of kaolinite.

Estimates of factors associated with PIM incidence, such as patient age, sex, race-ethnicity, medication subsidy support, and comorbidity, are also limited.
Objective: To estimate the incidence of PIM prescribing in older adult outpatients, as well as the incidence and predictors for each PIM class, in a large outpatient electronic health records (EHR) cohort.
Objective: The objective of this study was to compare a multiple pelvic screw fixation strategy (dual bilateral 4 pelvic screw fixation [4PvS]) with the use of single bilateral 2 pelvic screw fixation (2PvS), with the aim of addressing lumbosacral junction stability.
Methods: This analysis is a single-center, retrospective review of ASD patients treated between 2015 and 2021. All patients had a minimum 2-year follow-up and spinal fusion to the sacrum without sacroiliac fusion and met at least one radiographic and procedural criterion: pelvic incidence-lumbar lordosis ≥ 20°, T1 pelvic angle ≥ 20°, sagittal vertical axis ≥ 7.
Purpose: To compare the long-term outcomes among AIS (10-18 years) and young AdIS (YAdIS) (19-40 years) patients with minimum 2 year follow up.
Methods: A retrospective review of AIS and YAdIS patients who underwent primary corrective surgery at a single center was conducted. Demographic, radiographic, operative data, patient reported outcome measures (PROMs), including the ODI and SRS-22r, and long-term complications were collected.
Building on the evidence from the first paper in this Series highlighting the fundamental importance of healthy and nurturing environments for children's growth and development in the next 1000 days (ages 2-5 years), this paper summarises the benefits and costs of key strategies to support children's development in this age range. The next 1000 days build on the family-based and health-sector based interventions provided in the first 1000 days and require broader multisectoral programming. Interventions that have been shown to be particularly effective in this age range are the provision of early childhood care and education (ECCE), parenting interventions, and cash transfers.

Methods: ASD patients who underwent posterior spinal fusion at a single-center with a preoperative coronal vertical axis (CVA) ≥ 3 cm and a minimum of 2 year clinical and radiographic follow-up were identified. Patients were divided into two groups: those treated with a KSR and those who were not.
Purpose: To determine if an improvement in cord-level intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) data following data loss results in a reduced risk for new postoperative motor deficit in pediatric and adult spinal deformity surgery.
Methods: A consecutive series of 1106 patients underwent spine surgery from 2015 to 2023 by a single surgeon. Cord alerts were defined by Somatosensory-Evoked Potentials (SSEP; warning criteria: 10% increase in latency or > 50% loss in amplitude) and Motor-Evoked Potentials (MEP; warning criteria: 75% loss in amplitude without return to acceptable limits after stimulation up 100 V above baseline level).
Background: Postoperative carotid endarterectomy (CEA) patch infection is a rare but well-recognized complication of CEA. It is important for otolaryngologists to be aware of the presentation and challenges in its diagnosis.
Methods: Patients who presented with a neck mass or hemorrhage and a known prior history of carotid endarterectomy with synthetic patch reconstruction were worked up with ultrasound, CT, or MRI imaging.
Four human acellular dermal matrices (hADMs) were characterized in a nonhuman primate abdominal wall repair model by evaluating host immune response, vascularization, and incorporation into host tissues. AlloDerm™ (electron beam-sterilized hADM [e-hADM]), AlloMax™ (gamma beam-sterilized hADM, freeze-dried [g-hADM-FD]), DermaMatrix™ (hADM, freeze-dried [hADM-FD]), and FlexHD™ (ethanol-treated hADM [EtOH-hADM]) were each implanted in an abdominal wall-bridging defect in nonhuman primates ( = 3 animals/time point, = 36 animals). Methods: We identified all patients admitted with ruptured aortic aneurysms and intact aortic aneurysms repaired in the Nationwide Inpatient Sample between 2004 and 2019. We then examined the use of open, endovascular, and complex endovascular repair (OAR, EVAR, and cEVAR) for each aortic aneurysm location (AAA, TAAA, and TAA), alongside their resulting in-hospital mortality, over time.
Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are associated with immune dysregulation and increased susceptibility to infection, emphasizing the importance of vaccination for patients. This pilot study evaluated immune responses to influenza vaccination in MPN patients compared with healthy donors using mass cytometry and serology. We observed diminished CXCR5+ B-cell, CXCR3+ T-cell, activated CD127+ memory T-cell subsets, and a trend toward lower hemagglutinin inhibition titer in MPN patients.

We derived prediction models of risk of 90-day re-hospitalization among persons with CD that could be applied at hospital discharge to target outpatient interventions mitigating this risk.
Methods: We performed a retrospective study in persons with CD admitted between 2009 and 2016 for an acute CD-related indication.
Volitional movement requires descending input from the motor cortex and sensory feedback through the spinal cord. We previously developed a paired brain and spinal electrical stimulation approach in rats that relies on convergence of the descending motor and spinal sensory stimuli in the cervical cord. This approach strengthened sensorimotor circuits and improved volitional movement through associative plasticity.
