The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between androgen deprivation therapy and heart failure among prostate cancer patients. This cohort study used the data from the Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2005. In the full cohort study, we identified 1244 prostate cancer patients who had received androgen deprivation therapy as the study cohort and 1806 prostate cancer patients who did not receive androgen deprivation therapy as the comparison cohort.

The twin tail of ornamental goldfish is known to be caused by a nonsense mutation in one chordin paralogue gene. Our previous molecular studies in goldfish revealed that the ancestral chordin gene was duplicated, creating the chdA and chdB genes, and the subsequent introduction of a stop codon allele in the chdA gene ( chdA ) caused the twin-tail morphology. The chdA allele was positively selected by breeders, and the allele was genetically fixed in the ornamental twin-tail goldfish population.

Melatonin and serotonin are important phytochemicals enabling plants to redirect growth in response to environmental stresses. Despite much research on their biosynthetic routes, localization of their biosynthetic enzymes and recent identification of a phytomelatonin receptor, localization of the molecules themselves has to date not been possible. Objective: To determine if increasing hospitalisations for non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) in Western Australia (WA) was due to incident (first-ever) or repeat hospitalisations, an ageing population structure, changing procedural practice or a combination of these factors.

Methods: We conducted a longitudinal retrospective population study on all WA residents aged 25-94 years between 2000 and 2013, with a principal hospital discharge diagnosis of NVAF. Person-linked hospital morbidity and mortality records were used to measure annual rate ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) in the total and incident NVAF (25-94 years) hospitalisations, further stratified by sex and by age-specific standardised groups (25-44, 45-64, 65-75, 75-84, 85-94 years).

This study aimed to identify biomarkers of major depressive disorder (MDD), by relating neuroimage-derived measures to binary (MDD/control), ordinal (severe MDD/mild MDD/control), or continuous (depression severity) outcomes. The twin-tail of ornamental goldfish provides unique evolutionary evidence that the highly conserved midline localization of axial skeleton components can be changed by artificial selection. This morphological change is known to be caused by a nonsense mutation in one of the recently duplicated chordin genes, which are key players in dorsal-ventral (DV) patterning. Since all of the multiple twin-tail ornamental goldfish strains share the same mutation, it is reasonable to presume that this mutation occurred only once in domesticated goldfish.

This study aimed to establish an in vitro model to confirm the efficacy of erinacine A-enriched Hericium erinaceus (EAHE) mycelia and investigate its potential adverse effects in a preclinical experimental setting, including an assessment on the oral administration of EAHE mycelia in acute and prenatal developmental toxicity tests. At a single dose of 5000 mg/kg body weight, EAHE mycelia elicited no death or treatment-related signs of toxicity in ten Sprague-Dawley rats of both sexes during the 14 days of the experimental period. After considering the recommended dose range of EAHE mycelia from the acute toxicity test as well as the therapeutic doses, EAHE mycelia was administered to 66 pregnant rats in the low, medium, and high-dose groups by gavage at 875, 1750, and 2625 mg/kg body weight, respectively.
