[Results of 189 Visotrast studies in the differential diagnosis of acute intestinal obstruction].

In cases of an acute abdomen, bowel obstruction cannot always be excluded. In this case the administration of oral water soluble contrast media (Visotrast) is helpful. On the basis of their experience with 189 patients who underwent gastrointestinal x-ray examination with Visotrast (157 spontaneous mechanical obstruction, 32 postoperative ileus) the authors recommend this diagnostic procedure in difficult situations.

[Blunt abdominal trauma (author's transl)].

This is a report on 204 patients operated on for a blunt abdominal trauma in the period from January 1, 1964 to December 31, 1978. As a consequence of the blunt abdominal trauma, rupture of the spleen was found most frequently. In diagnosing blunt abdominal lesions peritoneal lavage as well as abdominal emergency angiography by have proved best apart from X-ray examination.

The basic programme of X-ray diagnosis consists of pictures in the a-p and lateral position in comparison with the healthy side. Tomography and toposcintigraphy give further information and can be completed by fistulography. Complementary information is possible by the use of ultrasonography.
