Background Researcher and psychologist Kieron Philip O'Connor (1950-2019) pioneered the cognitive and behavioural approach at the Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Montréal (IUSMM). It was there that he began a career as a clinical researcher studying Tourette's syndrome (TS) and obsessive-compulsive and related disorder (OCD). At the time, apart from some behavioural approaches, little cognitive intervention was available to treat chronic tics and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Background: An adverse event (AE) is any undesirable medical manifestation in an individual who has received pharmacological treatment. To be considered serious (SAE), it needs to meet minimally one of the severity criteria by Health Canada. The most recent data (2006) suggested that AEs were underreported (<6%) to health authorities.

Importance: The use of antipsychotics, antidepressants, and benzodiazepines may influence the risk of mortality in people with schizophrenia. However, many observational studies have not accounted for immortal time bias (ITB), which occurs when there is a period during which patients in the exposed group are necessarily alive and misclassified as exposed (the period between start of follow-up and initiation of drug). Ignoring ITB may lead to misinterpretation of the association between these drugs and mortality.

Background: The GeneXpert® MRSA/SA SSTI test allows early detection of methicillin-resistant staphylococci in intraoperative samples of prosthetic joint infections (PJI) in order to stop early broad-spectrum antibiotics.

Questions/purpose: (1) What is the rate of false-negative GeneXpert® MRSA/SA SSTI test results? (2) Does a false-negative GeneXpert® MRSA/SA SSTI test result increase the risk of treatment failure for the patient with a PJI? (3) What are the risk factors of a false-negative result?

Method: A retrospective study was carried out to compare all GeneXpert® assays to conventional cultures in prosthetic joint infections from April 1st, 2012 to October 1st, 2016. False-negative (FN) results (absence of methicillin-resistant staphylococci (MRS) with GeneXpert® test, but presence in the culture) were identified.

To inform the performance of ecological engineering designs for artificial structures at sea, it is essential to characterise their impacts on the epibenthic communities colonising them. In this context, the present study aims to compare the community structure among natural and four different artificial hard habitats with different ages and features installed in the Bay of Cherbourg (English Channel): ) cinder blocks and ) boulders, both installed six years prior to the study, and ) smooth and ) rugous concrete dykes, both installed one year prior to this study. Results showed that artificial habitats installed six years ago harboured communities with functional and taxonomic diversity characteristic of mature communities but were still different from those of natural habitat.

The cortex immediately surrounding a brain ischemic lesion, the peri-infarct cortex (PIC), harbors a large part of the potential to recover lost functions. However, our understanding of the neurophysiological conditions in which synaptic plasticity operates remains limited. Here we hypothesized that the chronic imbalance between excitation and inhibition of the PIC prevents the normalization of the gamma rhythm, a waveband of neural oscillations thought to orchestrate action potential trafficking.

  • Ovarian neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are rare tumors often found in mature teratomas, but there hasn’t been a recent study looking at their characteristics using new tumor markers.
  • This study analyzed 34 unilateral NETs, identifying four distinct immunophenotypic profiles and determining the tumors' grade and proliferation rates with specific markers.
  • The findings indicate that the most common NET type shows an intestinal phenotype, suggesting a neuroendocrine precursor in the teratoma and emphasizing that these tumors shouldn't be classified based on the surrounding teratoma components.

  • - A study examined the prescription patterns of medications for patients with nasally placed feeding tubes (NPFT) and found that 92% were on polypharmacy (multiple medications) upon admission, decreasing slightly to 84.7% at discharge.
  • - High-alert medications (those that pose a significant risk if used inappropriately) made up over 17% of all prescriptions, with no significant change in their usage between admission and discharge.
  • - The study highlights the need for coordinated care strategies to manage the medication risks associated with NPFT patients, particularly given their complex health conditions.

The lack of selective and safe in vivo IRE1α tool molecules has limited the evaluation of IRE1α as a viable target to treat multiple myeloma. Focus on improving the physicochemical properties of a literature compound by decreasing lipophilicity, molecular weight, and basicity allowed the discovery of a novel series with a favorable in vitro safety profile and good oral exposure. These efforts culminated in the identification of a potent and selective in vivo tool compound, , that was well tolerated following multiday oral administration of doses up to 500 mg/kg.

The Southern Ocean and the Antarctic Circumpolar Current create environmental conditions that serve as an efficient barrier to prevent the colonization of non-native species (NNS) in the marine ecosystems of Antarctica. However, warming of the Southern Ocean and the increasing number of transport opportunities are reducing the physiological and physical barriers, increasing the chances of NNS arriving. The aim of this study was to determine the limits of survival of the juvenile mussels, M.
