The analysis of the morbidity dynamics of HIV infection, hepatitis B and C in the Krasnodar territory for 1996-2003 is presented. The tendency of strengthening direct correlation between age-dependent rates in these groups of diseases has been established. The correlation coefficient (rxy) is at present +0.

The effect of Cu2+ on the structural organization of the cell surface of Escherichia coli bacteria during the induction of conductivity of a plasma membrane was studied. A fluorescent study did not reveal any substantial changes in the microviscosity of lipids by the action of copper ions. At the same time, a substantial reorganization of membrane proteins during plasmolysis was observed.

Specific binding of bovine prolactin and somatotropin by granulosa cells from the antral follicles of various diameters was studied in cows at different reproductive states, prepubertal, pubertal, and early gestation. The ability of granulosa cells to bind prolactin did not depend on the reproductive state of an animal. At the same time, the dynamics of somatotropin specific binding by granulosa cells during maturation of the antral follicles differed at dissimilar reproductive states of the cows.

We analyzed our results and literature evidence on variability of nuclear protein genes in 39 populations of eight synanthropic and wild species of house mice (superspecies complexes Mus musculus and M. spicilegus) from Transcaucasia, Eastern and Western Europe, Near and Middle East, Central, South, and East Asia, and Cuba. These data were for the first time ever combined into a single database by unification of nomenclature of 21 loci examined by different authors in 39 populations.

Mathematical analysis of the basic parameters was used to trace a trend in the epidemiological situation of tuberculosis in the Tver Region. Unfavorable shifts were noted in the increase of the prevalence, incidence, and mortality of tuberculosis among children and adolescents, and a rise in the reservoir of tuberculous infection. New approaches to improving the epidemiological situation by integrating the phthisiological service and general health care facilities, by enhancing a role of a family physician, by applying informational systems for monitoring the epidemic situation, and by introducing the adapted international strategies, WHO recommendations have been developed for the treatment of patients and tested.

Influence of prodigiozan in different concentrations on the process of postirradiation recovery of haemopoietic precursors (GM-CFC) and morphologically recognizable elements of the bone marrow were studied in long-term bone marrow cultures during 28 days after 2 Gy gamma-irradiation. Also, prodigiozan was studied for action on the contents of GM-CFC and induction of GM-CSF three, 24 and 48 hours after injection in cultures unexposed to radiation. It is shown that injection of prodigiozan in concentration 0.

The influence of luteinization and bovine somatotropin (ST, 5-50 ng/ml) during cultivation of bovine granulosa cells on their ability to bind [125I]-labeled bovine prolactin (PRL) was studied. On the second day of cultivation in serumfree medium, granulosa cells from immature antral follicles underwent spontaneous luteinization, in both the absence and presence of ST. The level of [125I]-PRL specific binding to cells increased after two days of cultivation, with a negative correlation being revealed between estradiol production by the cells and their PRL-binding activity.

The presence, diversity, and geochemical activity of microorganisms in the Severnyi repository of liquid radioactive wastes were studied. Cultivable anaerobic denitrifiers, fermenters, sulfate-reducers, and methanogens were found in water samples from a depth of 162-405 m below sea level. Subsurface microorganisms produced methane from [2-(14)C]acetate and [(14)C]CO(2), formed hydrogen sulfide from Na(2) (35)SO(4), and reduced nitrate to dinitrogen in medium with acetate.

Propagation of solitons in optical fibers is studied taking into account the polarization mode dispersion (PMD) effect. We show that the soliton interaction caused by the radiation emitted by solitons due to the PMD disorder leads to soliton jitter, and we find its statistical properties. The theoretical predictions are justified by direct numerical simulations.

The currently available evidence points to a possible influence of growth hormone (GH) on avian folliculogenesis, which can be mediated by both hepatic- and ovarian-derived IGF-I. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to reveal GH-binding sites in granulosa and theca layers of preovulatory follicles and to determine the binding characteristics depending on the degree of follicular maturation and the stage of the ovulatory cycle in the hen. Hens were killed 2 h (stage I), 9 h (stage II), 16 h (stage III), and 23 h (stage IV) after oviposition, and the five largest yellow follicles (from F1 to F5) were removed.

The influence of human interleukin-1 beta in different concentration on processes of postirradiation recovery of haemopoietic precursors (GM-CFC) and morphology of recognized elements of bone marrow were studied in long-term bone marrow cultures during 28 days after gamma-irradiation with a dose of 2 Gy. It was studied also the action of interleukin-1 beta on proliferation, the contents of GM-CFC and the induction of GM-CSF in non-irradiated cultures. It was shown that the injection of interleukin-1 beta increased proliferation and the content of GM-CFC and also raised an induction of GM-CSF in the non-irradiation cultures.

We study propagation of solitons in optical fibers with randomly varying birefringence which results in polarization mode dispersion. Due to the disorder, solitons emit radiation, i.e.

On the basis of the understanding that there are common development mechanisms for the inflammatory and immune reactions it was established that the activity of the oxidant-antioxidant system (OAS) correlates not only with a severity of the inflammatory reaction but also with a degree of immune disorders. Such disorders were studied in patients with endogenous uveitis and with cancer of the esophagus or uterine cervix, i.e.

Passive scalar evolution in peripheral regions.

Phys Rev E Stat Nonlin Soft Matter Phys

March 2004

We consider the evolution of a passive scalar (concentration of pollutants or temperature) in a chaotic (turbulent) flow. A universal asymptotic behavior of the passive scalar decay (homogenization) related to peripheral regions (near walls) is established. The passive scalar moments and their pair correlation function in the peripheral region are analyzed.

Two typical scheme of protection of the input cascade of the electrocardiograph against defibrillator impulses are under consideration. It is concluded that the conditions of check-up and testing as envisaged in State Standard R 50267.25 (MEK 601-2-25-93), is not in line with the real operation conditions, therefore, appropriate changes are suggested to be made in the above Standard.

We study the dependence on fiber birefringence of the bit-error rate (BER) caused by amplifier noise in a linear optical fiber telecommunication system. We show that the probability-distribution function of the BER obtained by averaging over many realizations of birefringent disorder has an extended tail that corresponds to anomalously large values of BER. We specifically discuss the dependence of the tail on such details of pulse detection at the fiber output as setting the clock and filtering procedures.
