Background: According to the literature, the brachial plexus presents a high rate of anatomical variations in the human neural system. The musculocutaneous nerve, a vital component of the brachial plexus, exhibits significant anatomical variations that hold clinical relevance across multiple medical disciplines. This case report, with a comprehensive review, explores the different variations in the course, branching patterns, and clinical implications of the musculocutaneous nerve.

Background: The primary method employed worldwide for the treatment of scaphoid fractures is screw fixation. However, in unstable and comminuted fractures, percutaneous fixation could produce complications due to technical challenges, such as improper axis positioning, inaccurate screw length measurement, intra-articular screw penetration, and impingement. Alternative open approaches for the surgical management of scaphoid fractures have been proposed, and in recent years, a new specific volar locking plate for the treatment of scaphoid fractures has been developed.

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a new non-invasive imaging technique that carefully analyzes retinal microvasculature networks with high-resolution imaging. Recent studies have demonstrated that retinal vessel density and retinal perfusion reflect systemic inflammatory responses.

Upon release, anteposition of the nerve may be necessary to avoid dislocation of the latter when unstable. Numerous techniques are described in the literature (subcutaneous transposition, intramuscular transposition, subfascial transposition, medial epicondylectomy …), none of which is without complications.

First-trimester prenatal treatment with glucocorticoid (GC) dexamethasone (DEX) in pregnancies at risk for classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is associated with ethical dilemmas. Though effective in reducing virilisation in girls with CAH, it entails exposure to high doses of GC in fetuses that do not benefit from the treatment. The current paper provides an update on the literature on outcomes of prenatal DEX treatment in CAH cases and unaffected subjects.

Although the axons exceed the total volume of motor neuron soma by several orders of magnitude, systematic studies investigating the presence and distribution of pTDP-43 aggregates within motor nerves are still lacking. The aim of this study is to define the TDP-43/pTDP-43 pathology in diagnostic motor nerve biopsies performed on a large cohort of patients presenting with a lower motor neuron syndrome and to assess whether this might be a discriminating tissue biomarker for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and non-amyotrophic lateral sclerosis cases.

A panel of hand surgeons from these different regions compared and discussed data from the centers they work in. The COVID-19 pandemic had an enormous impact on both elective and emergency surgery in Italy, not only in highly affected regions but also - and paradoxically even at a higher extent - in regions with a low COVID-19 case load.

Flexor digitorum superficialis is transposed on the proximal phalanx and inserted on the pulley rims, crossing over flexor digitorum profundus and acting as a pulley.
Materials And Methods: The kinematic feasibility was investigated in a cadaveric bowstring model (after A2 and C1 pulley removal) on 22 fingers (thumb excluded).
Background: To evaluate the efficacy and the safety of subthreshold micropulse yellow laser (SMYL) in the treatment of chronic postoperative cystoid macular edema (PCME), which is refractory to standard therapies.
Methods: A retrospective chart review of ten eyes of ten patients affected by refractory PCME who underwent SMYL was performed. Five PCME cases were subsequent to uncomplicated cataract surgery (CS), two cases to complicated CS (CCS) with posterior capsule rupture and three cases occurred after retinal detachment surgery (RD).
To evaluate macular pigment optical density (MPOD) after bimanual femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) compared to standard bimanual phacoemulsification (B-MICS). A prospective, case matched, comparative cohort study conducted at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy); 30 eyes underwent bimanual FLACS with low-energy Ziemer LDV Z8 (FLACS) and 30 underwent B-MICS standard technique (B-MICS). All interventions were conducted by the same expert surgeon.

The aim of the present study is to investigate the molecular pathways underlying amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) pathogenesis within the peripheral nervous system. We analyzed gene expression changes in human motor nerve diagnostic biopsies obtained from eight ALS patients and seven patients affected by motor neuropathy as controls. An integrated transcriptomics and system biology approach was employed.

We describe the clinical and neuropathological characteristics of a patient presenting with a rapidly progressive LMNS associated with high titers of anti-GM1 antibodies, leading to respiratory failure within 10 months. Histopathological study of a biopsy of a obturator nerve motor branch demonstrated a predominantly axonal motor neuropathy, while electron microscopy analysis localized macrophages located within the periaxonal space.

Its etiology still remains unknown although several studies highlight a neurogenic inflammation as a possible cause. Pillar pain treatment usually includes rest, bracing and physiotherapy, although a significant number of patients still complain of painful symptoms two or even three years after surgery.

We evaluated the diagnostic contribution of the biopsy of the motor branch of the obturator nerve and gracilis muscle in 21 consecutive patients in which, after proper clinical and neurophysiological studies, the differential diagnosis was still open. At baseline, motor biopsy was performed; diagnostic confirmation was obtained by 2-year clinical follow-up.

After reduction and osteosynthesis, intracapsular pressure increased in three out of five cases. The result is discussed in relation to the possible role of intracapsular pressure sustained by hemarthrosis in the pathogenesis of post-traumatic vascularity of the femoral head.

The authors both detected hemarthrosis and calculated intraarticular pressure and blood supply to the femoral head using diagnostic tests (ultrasound, arthrography, manometric measurements, and bone scan tomography) in 18 patients with femoral neck fracture. The data obtained, in agreement with other reports in the literature, show a relationship between the condition of the joint capsule, the level of intraarticular pressure, and the arterial blood supply to the femoral head in cases of undisplaced or slightly displaced femoral neck fracture. The potential clinical implications are discussed.
