The cancer profile of veterinarians has received little research attention, despite the profession potentially being exposed to a wide range of known and suspected carcinogens. In this large-scale cohort study, we assessed cancer incidence in veterinarians in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, across more than 40 years (1961-2005). The cohort comprised 4708 veterinarians and 119,503 person-years at follow-up.

Fifty-seven Swiss male ice hockey athletes were subjects (National League [NL], = 22; Under 20 [U20], = 20; Under 17 [U17], = 15). Athletes performed: on-ice 30 m skating sprint, countermovement jump (CMJ), squat jump (SJ), and isometric mid-thigh pull (IMTP) tests in a single day.

As palpation sense is not quantifiable, this study investigates the utility of ultrasound elastography to quantify stiffness of lymphoedema tissue and explore the influence of the pitting test on tissue stiffness. Fifteen women with unilateral arm lymphoedema were scanned using a Siemens S3000 Acuson ultrasound (Siemens, Germany) with 18 MHz and 9 MHz linear transducers to assess tissue structure and tissue stiffness with Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse elastography.

Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the association of age, sex, education, nationality, competitive background and training amount with sport motives of masters track and field athletes.
Methods: 811 (254 women) athletes aged 35-89 years participated in European Veterans Athletics Championships in the year of 2000.
We aimed to investigate the association of self-reported leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) over a 45-years from adolescence to late middle age mediated by LTPA in early middle age. We also explored whether LTPA in adolescence and early middle age was associated with change in LTPA during the COVID-19 pandemic. We constructed a path model employing questionnaire data from three LTPA measurements (1976, 2001, 2021) including duplicated assessment for pre- and during COVID-19 in 2021.

We analyzed pollution plumes originating from ships using liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a fuel. Measurements were performed at a station located on the Utö island in the Baltic Sea during 2015-2021 when vessels passed the station along an adjacent shipping lane and the wind direction allowed the measurements. The ratio of the measured concentration peaks ΔCH/ΔCO ranged from 1% to 9% and from 0.

The Guideline recommended against the use low-level laser therapy (LLLT). Why this conclusion was reached is discussed in this review in the context of evidence provided in other systematic reviews, the latest of which was published in 2019 and which provided strong support for LLLT for knee OA.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative disorders, and is associated with prominent motor deficits. However, neurocognitive impairment is also a common clinical feature that can contribute greatly to the overall disease burden. In the current study, a meta-analysis was conducted to gain a clearer understanding of how PD affects one of the most functionally important domains of cognition: prospection.

Therefore, an assessment of comprehensive continuous surface O measurements performed at four sites in continental South Africa was conducted. The regional O problem was evident, with O concentrations regularly exceeding the South African air quality standard limit, while O levels were higher compared to other background sites in the Southern Hemisphere.

Recess PA, peer relationships at school, relatedness to school, and school climate were assessed via surveys with eighth-grade students in spring 2011 (n = 385) and spring 2013 (n = 373). Local contact people in the school projects (n = 6), school staff (n = 83) and principals (n = 3) provided information on the PA promotion process via telephone interviews and surveys.

In this quasi-experimental design, we compared changes in moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) and sedentary time (ST) during the school day and outside school hours for Grades 1-9 over two academic years in four program schools and two reference schools. Altogether 319 girls and boys aged 7-15 participated in the study between 2010 and 2012.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the associations of students' recess physical activity with school-related social factors.
Methods: Data were collected in 19 schools countrywide in autumn 2010, and 1463 students from grades 4 and 5 (primary school) and from grades 7 and 8 (lower secondary school) completed an anonymous questionnaire.
The national Finnish Schools on the Move programme support schools with their individual plans to promote school-based physical activity (PA). We examined the changes in adolescents' recess and overall PA in four lower secondary schools and described the school actions to promote students' PA and the local contact persons' perceptions of the effects. Recess and overall PA were assessed four times by anonymous questionnaires from students in grades 7-9 (n = 789) in 2010-12, and local contact persons (n = 7) provided information on school actions with diaries, interviews and surveys.

Poor adherence to psychotropic medication is a significant issue for patients with bipolar disorder. The effectiveness of medication treatment is limited by high rates of medication non-adherence among this population. Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based intervention that has been efficacious in promoting behavioral health regimens and treatment recommendations, including medication adherence.

In 1976, five field tests were conducted to measure muscular fitness, agility and aerobic capacity, and self-report weekly frequencies of activity were obtained by questionnaire. A modified questionnaire was repeated in 2001, when participants were age 37-43 years (N = 1525).

Methods: Two cross-sectional samples of Finnish 13-16-year-old adolescents were studied in 1976 (n = 643; 312 boys and 331 girls) and in 2001 (n = 579; 308 boys and 271 girls). Muscular fitness index was calculated as the sum of age- and sex-specific z-scores of four tests measuring muscular fitness and agility.

This study investigated coping and quality of life in men with prostate cancer (n= 105, 48-86 years of age) and their partners (n= 85, 48-84 years). Participants completed the Abbreviated Dyadic Adjustment Scale, Brief COPE, European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Core Quality of Life Questionnaire (QLQ-C30) and open-ended questions on appraisal and coping. Multivariate analyses showed that better quality of life was associated with higher education levels (role functioning and fatigue), lower avoidant coping (emotional, social, and physical functioning and fatigue), and higher relationship satisfaction (emotional functioning).

As a part of the Finnish Adolescent Health and Lifestyle Survey a random sample of 12-, 15- and 18-year-old boys and girls participated in a nation-wide survey by answering questions every second year, from 1977 to 2005, on, among other things, leisure time physical activity and sport participation. Father's education represented FSES.

Background: The use of bioscaffolds is considered a promising strategy for a number of clinical applications where tissue healing is sub-optimal. As in vitro osteoblast growth is a slow process, laser phototherapy could be used to stimulate osteoblast proliferation on bioscaffolds.
Background: The aim of the study was to describe the prevalence, trends and associated factors of dietary supplements (DS) and anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) use among Finnish adolescents.
Methods: The sample comprised 30 511 adolescents aged 12-18 years, of which 22 519 (74%) answered a questionnaire. We also studied associations between 14 socioeconomic, health and health behavioural variables and DS and AAS use by logistic regression.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the time trend of questionnaire-assessed moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) among 12-18-year-old Finnish boys and girls from 1979 to 2005. The MVPA was defined as "at least moderately breathtaking and sweating in leisure time physical activities more than 3 times week." Data were based on the Adolescent Health and Lifestyle Survey, which is a biannual, nation-wide survey on adolescent health and health-related lifestyle in Finland.
