The safety, rationality and the practicality of enteral nutrition (EN) support in the postoperative patients with damaged hepatic function were investigated and the protective effect of EN on the gut barrier and the clinical implication studied. Seventy-six adult patients whose hepatic function were in Child B or C grade were randomly assigned in EN group (30 cases), total parenteral nutrition (TPN) group (26 cases) and control group (CON, 20 cases). The patients received different nutritional support.

Aim: To investigate the mechanism underlying intestinal barrier function damage after severe trauma and the therapeutic effect of glutamine.
Methods: Burned patients, and animal models of severe trauma replicated by hemorrhagic shock combined with endotoxin infusion and burn injury, were included in a serial experiment. Effects of oral glutamine on intestinal barrier function were observed in scalded rats.
The L550 intermediate in the bacteriorhodopsin (bR) photocycle has drawn much attention with respect to the mechanism of light-driven proton transport because it selectively releases the Schiff base (SB) proton to the extracellular proton channel in the L-->M transition. Here we extend our solid-state NMR studies of bR photocycle intermediates to the L state. Under conditions that stabilize L550, a new SB signal is detected in the 15N NMR spectrum which disappears upon thermal relaxation.

Delayed acquisition of the proton NMR in selected organic molecular solids (L-alanine, durene, ethyl fumarate, and p-hydroxybenzoic acid) is shown to allow the observation of mobile species in the presence of relatively rigid bulk molecules. The mobility is found to be thermally activated. The combination of the thermally activated motion and magic-angle spinning leads to a fraction of these species moving nearly isotropically on the time scale of the inverse of the homonuclear dipolar splitting.
