Purpose: Hydrocephalus requiring permanent CSF shunting after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is frequent. It is unknown which type of valve is optimal. This study evaluates if the revision rate of gravitational differential pressure valves (G-DPVs, GAV® system (B Braun)) (G-DPV) is comparable to adjustable pressure valves (Codman Medos Hakim) (APV) in the treatment of post-aSAH hydrocephalus.

Methods: Lumbar cerebrospinal fluid dynamics were derived from an automatic lumbar infusion test (LIT) protocol. All patients were treated with ventriculoperitoneal shunting and re-examined 6 months after shunting.
Background: While neurogranin has no value as plasma biomarker for Alzheimer's disease, it may be a potential blood biomarker for traumatic brain injury. This evokes the question whether there are changes in neurogranin levels in blood in other conditions of brain injury, such as acute ischemic stroke (AIS).
Methods: We therefore explored neurogranin in paired cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)/plasma samples of AIS patients (n = 50) from a well-described prospective study.
A detailed protocol is presented for the targeted enrichment of whole mitochondrial genomes based on an in-solution hybridization strategy. Bait is produced in-house by sonication of two long-range PCR amplicons and ligation of biotinylated double-stranded adapters. Indexed target DNA is hybridized with the bait in a multiplex enrichment reaction and pulled down using magnetic streptavidin beads followed by subsequent post-enrichment PCR and sequencing on an Illumina MiSeq.

Online health communities have emerged to fill the void for patient advocacy and information, allowing individuals with shared experiences and chronic disorders to connect.
Objective: We have developed an online health community for aSAH patients, and this pilot study was conducted to evaluate it from a patient's perspective.
