Juvenile hormone (JH) is one of the most essential hormones controlling insect metamorphosis and physiology. While it is well known that JH affects many tissues throughout the insect life cycle, the difference in JH responsiveness and the repertoire of JH-inducible genes among different tissues has not been fully investigated. In this study, we monitored JH responsiveness using transgenic flies carrying a () construct.

Article Synopsis
  • - A study investigated the effectiveness of the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) in predicting falls risk for older adults (75+) who visited the Emergency Department (ED) after an extrinsic fall, as no prior research had addressed this population specifically.
  • - Researchers conducted a retrospective analysis from July 2019 to July 2022, focusing on re-presentation to the ED for falls and mortality rates, using a flexible parametric survival model to assess these outcomes.
  • - The findings revealed that while the CFS showed acceptable calibration, it had poor discriminant ability, suggesting it is not a reliable tool for predicting the risk of re-presentation to the ED for older adults within six months after a fall.

Objective: The authors sought to examine influenza and COVID-19 vaccine uptake among individuals diagnosed as having psychiatric disorders compared with those without such diagnoses and to examine variations in vaccine uptake by sociodemographic and clinical characteristics.

Methods: The study was conducted in the Kaiser Permanente Georgia, Washington, and Southern California health care systems. Individuals with psychiatric conditions had at least one diagnosis of any psychiatric disorder during a 12-month study period; individuals in the control group had no psychiatric disorder diagnoses during this period, and the two groups were matched on age and sex.

Importance: Levying excise taxes on sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) distributors, which are subsequently passed on to consumers, is a policy implemented to reduce the high prevalence of cardiometabolic disease and generate public health funding. Taxes are associated with lower SSB purchases and consumption, but it is unknown whether they are associated with weight-related outcomes in youth.

Objective: To determine the association of SSB excise taxes with youth body mass index (BMI) trajectories.
