Sickle cell disease (SCD) primarily affects people of African American descent in the United States. Many individuals do not know their sickle cell trait (SCT) status or might not be aware of SCD. The purpose of this study was to assess SCD knowledge, awareness of SCT status, and its impact on relationships.

Predictors of Using Pharmacists as a Medication Safety Information Resource Among Women of Reproductive Age.

Background: Medication use during pregnancy is prevalent with notable increases in the use of over-the-counter medications. In this era of information proliferation, it is important to understand where women of reproductive age obtain information on medication safety.

Objective: The main objective of this study was to determine the predictive factors associated with the utilization of pharmacists as a medication information safety resource among reproductive age women.

Assessing Childhood Community Experiences.

Aims: Community-level childhood experiences make up important aspects of early life that are associated with long-term health outcomes. However, to date, there have been no validated measures that assess community-level experiences during childhood. Thus, we aimed to develop and validate a measure that would assess community-level experiences associated with both risk and resilience.

Utilizing Relative Autonomy Index Scores to Evaluate the Impact of Age on Motivation to Exercise in Black Women.

Background: Black women are disproportionately affected by overweight and obesity. One theory that may have utility in increasing the amount of exercise among Black women is self-determination theory, a psychology-based theory commonly used to investigate motivation in the context of exercise. The objective of this study was to determine whether motivation towards exercise behavior differs between younger and older Black women.

Evaluation of the effect of voxelotor and darbepoetin alfa on hemoglobin levels in patients with sickle cell disease.

Background: To date, there is limited evidence on patients utilizing both voxelotor and darbepoetin alfa and its impact on hemoglobin levels. The objective is to evaluate the effect of voxelotor and darbepoetin alfa on hemoglobin levels in patients with SCD.

Research Design And Methods: This was a retrospective chart review study that assessed the primary independent variable as the utilization of either voxelotor alone, darbepoetin alfa alone, or the concurrent administration of voxelotor and darbepoetin alfa.
