Background: Considerable interest has been focused on the design of the glenoid component used in total shoulder arthroplasty in order to reduce the risk of loosening. One design-related feature that has attracted attention is whether to use pegged or keeled cemented glenoid components. The main purpose of this study was to compare the fixation of cemented keeled glenoid components with that of cemented in-line pegged glenoid components.

Unlabelled: It is unclear whether humeral stems should be fixed with or without cement. We question whether press-fit fixation would provide similar results to cemented stem fixation. We prospectively randomized 26 shoulders in 24 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (20 women, 4 men) to have either a cemented or press-fit stem.

A retrospective study was done to assess long-term results after surgery with the Eden-Hybbinette technique for unidirectional anterior glenohumeral instability. Between 1962 and 1976, 118 patients (119 shoulders) were treated. Eighty-seven patients answered a questionnaire.

Recent studies have shown that arthroscopic lavage of the glenohumeral joint within 10 days following a primary anterior dislocation significantly lowers the recurrence rate when compared with a nonoperative regime. We hypothesize that the lavage reduces distension in the joint and thereby facilitates adaptation and healing of the soft tissue lesion. Using ultrasound, we assessed the hemarthrosis in the glenohumeral joint weekly in 16 consecutive patients after traumatic primary anterior shoulder dislocation.

The purpose of this study was to compare fixation using either Mitek suture-anchors or a cannulated screw technique, both applied extracapsularly, for an open Bankart reconstruction. Fifty-five consecutive patients with recurrent anterior dislocation of the shoulder were operated in two consecutive series. The same surgical technique was applied regardless of group, except for the reattachment method of the capsulolabral complex to the glenoid rim.
