Exploring Cannabis-Associated Presentations to Canadian Pediatric Emergency Departments: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Objective: Recent studies found that recreational legalization of cannabis consumption for Canadian adults has increased presentation to the emergency department (ED) among children. In this descriptive study, our objectives were to (1) understand Canadian pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) providers' training and knowledge of clinical presentations associated with cannabis exposure in children and (2) describe pediatric ED presentations related to cannabis exposure across Canada following legalization in 2018.

Method: In 2021, following ethics board approval, 230 Pediatric Emergency Research Canada (PERC) network pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians were invited to share about their knowledge, training, and experience with patients presenting with cannabis-associated emergencies using an anonymized survey administered through REDCap.

Incorporating Faculty and Student Co-leadership in Workgroup Structures.

In 2020, the Dean of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine created a college-wide task force to address inequities in the medical school curriculum. The task force consisted of four workgroups, each co-chaired by a faculty member and a student. This co-leadership model was chosen because it provided diverse perspectives and addressed the typical faculty-student power differentials.

The IFPA youth group, the Adolescent Confidential Telephone Service and Sexual Health Activism in Ireland, . 1984-90.

In October 1984 the Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA) established a youth group of volunteers aged 16-20. One of the group's main initiatives was a sexual health phoneline for young people called the Adolescent Confidential Telephone Service (ACTS). Using oral history interviews and archival sources such as the ACTS logbook, this article explores the motivations of the young activists involved in the ACTS and what the operation of and responses to it reveal about the wider social climate in relation to sexual health.

The Role of Neutrophils in Allergic Disease.

Neutrophils are short-lived cells of the innate immune system and represent 50-70% of the circulating leucocytes. Their primary role is antimicrobial defence which they accomplish through rapid migration to sites of inflammation followed by phagocytosis, degranulation and the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETosis). While previously considered terminally-differentiated cells, they have been shown to have great adaptability and to play a role in conditions ranging from cancer to autoimmunity.

Cervical spine positioning patterns amongst hand surgeons: A critical analysis of surgical posture.

Aim: This study aims to assess the cervical spine positioning of consultant and trainee hand surgeons during standardised hand surgeries, focusing on the prevalence of sustained end-range postures, particularly cervical spine flexion.

Background: Surgeons often perform procedures that require maintenance of sustained postures for prolonged periods of time. Hand surgeons may be at increased risk of sustained end of range postures, particularly cervical spine flexion.
