Pruritic Vulvovaginitis in a Young Girl: A Case of Vulvovaginal Enterobiasis.

Vulvovaginal enterobiasis is underreported and an often-missed diagnosis in prepubertal girls presenting with isolated nocturnal vulvar pruritus. An 8-year-old-girl with intense nocturnal vulvar itching for 4 months was diagnosed with enterobiasis after microscopy of a vaginal swab revealed Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm) ova. The child and her family were treated with two doses of oral albendazole, 2 weeks apart, resulting in symptom resolution.

Transduction of Human Fetal Liver Hematopoietic CD34+ Stem and Progenitor Cells into a Cell Line by Enhancing Telomerase Activity.

: Human fetal liver hematopoietic stem cells have proven potential as therapeutics but lack extensive research due to their limited supply. Even expanded fetal liver hematopoietic stem cells enter senescence or lose their self-renewal capacity after a few days in culture. The present study aimed to obtain a homogeneous and persistent supply of hematopoietic stem cells from the fetal liver by establishing a cell line through immortalization of cells by enhancing telomerase activity.

Evaluation of Perceived Stress and Its Association with Dental Caries in 290 Undergraduate Medical Students.

BACKGROUND Stress-induced health disorders are related to an unhealthy lifestyle. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of perceived stress among medical students and to correlate their respective stress levels with the caries index: decayed, missing, filled surfaces (DMFS). MATERIAL AND METHODS This study included 290 undergraduate medical students (140 men, 150 women) from 4 different grades.

Analysis of historical data to accelerate deletion of Abnormal Toxicity Test requirement for biologicals and vaccines.

Abnormal Toxicity Test (ATT) is performed as quality control test by manufacturers and National Control Laboratory (NCL) to ensure safety of biologicals. However, stakeholders are in general consensus that extraneous toxic contaminations are extremely unlikely where Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and consistent production have been established. This test requiring mice and guinea pigs is still a regulatory requirement for the batch release of biologicals in several countries although it has been deleted by some National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) and Pharmacopoeias while some are still working on its elimination.

Exposure of Proso millet starch to superheated steam: Effect on physicochemical, techno-functional, rheological behavior, digestibility, and related mechanism.

In the present study, proso millet starch (PMS) was treated with SHS (120-160 °C for 1-5 min) to investigate the molecular interactions and techno-functional, rheological, and digestible properties. Exposure to SHS induced the degradation of helical structure, and longer chains, reducing amylose, blue value, optical density, and relative crystallinity. Meanwhile, SHS treatment might have introduced hydro‑carbonyl groups, eventually increasing water absorption capacity, swelling power, and transparency.
