MALDI-TOF (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight) mass spectrometry has become, in the recent years, a tool of choice for analyses of biological polymers. The wide mass range, high accuracy, informativity and sensitivity make it a superior method for analysis of all kinds of high-molecular biological compounds including proteins, nucleic acids and lipids. MALDI-TOF-MS is particularly suitable for the identification of proteins by mass fingerprint or microsequencing.
