Porous free-standing molecularly imprinted polymer membranes were synthesised by the method of in situ polymerisation using the principle of synthesis of interpenetrating polymer networks and tested in solid-phase extraction of triazine herbicides from aqueous solutions. Atrazine-specific MIP membranes were obtained by the UV-initiated co-polymerisation of methacrylic acid, tri(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate, and oligourethane acrylate in the presence of a template (atrazine). Addition of oligourethane acrylate provided formation of the highly cross-linked MIP in a form of a free-standing 60 microm thick flexible membrane.

The thermodynamic miscibility, morphology, phase distribution, mechanical properties, surface properties, water sorption, bacterial adhesion and cytotoxicity of semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (semi-IPNs) based on crosslinked polyurethane (PU) and poly(hydroxyethylmethacrylate) (PHEMA) were studied to give an insight into their structure and properties. The free energies of mixing of the two polymers in semi-IPNs have been determined and it was shown that the values are positive and depend on the amount of PHEMA. This demonstrates that the components are immiscible, the extent of which is dependent upon variations in composition.

Introduction of separation plasmapheresis and plasmasorption into intensive therapy of 60 patients with surgical endotoxemia ensured marked detoxication, which manifested in earlier improvement of the clinical symptoms and normalization of intracellular metabolism in cellular elements of the peripheral blood. The data obtained make it possible to recommend the use of the above treatment procedures for elimination of profound intracellular metabolic disturbances in the postoperative period.
