Clinical manifestations and outcomes of COVID-19 in maintenance hemodialysis patients of a high infectious epidemic country: a prospective cross-sectional study.

Introduction: The outbreak of COVID-19 poses great challenges for patients on maintenance haemodialysis. Here, we reported the clinical characteristics and laboratory features of maintenance haemodialysis (MHD) patients with COVID-19 in Bangladesh.

Methods: Altogether, 67 MHD patients were enroled in the study from two dedicated tertiary-level hospitals for COVID-19 after the prospective cross-sectional execution of selection criteria.

Assessment of the indoor environment and implications for health in Roma villages in Slovakia and Romania.

Objectives: The objective of this paper is to provide information on indoor air quality and on the quality of the broader indoor environment of the houses in Roma villages in Slovakia and Romania and to discuss possible implications for health.

Methods: Indoor air was sampled in 11 houses in a Romanian Roma village and in 19 houses in a Slovakian Roma village. Levels of carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), total particulate matter (PM), temperature and humidity were measured.

The maize lipoxygenase, ZmLOX10, mediates green leaf volatile, jasmonate and herbivore-induced plant volatile production for defense against insect attack.

Fatty acid derivatives are of central importance for plant immunity against insect herbivores; however, major regulatory genes and the signals that modulate these defense metabolites are vastly understudied, especially in important agro-economic monocot species. Here we show that products and signals derived from a single Zea mays (maize) lipoxygenase (LOX), ZmLOX10, are critical for both direct and indirect defenses to herbivory. We provide genetic evidence that two 13-LOXs, ZmLOX10 and ZmLOX8, specialize in providing substrate for the green leaf volatile (GLV) and jasmonate (JA) biosynthesis pathways, respectively.

[Significance of the functional activity of antibodies in influenza immunity].

A simple and inexpensive test for mass examination of the functional activity of serum antibodies was developed. The test is based on a kinetic serologic reaction that reflects the time course of changes in antibody titers depending on the time of contact of the tested material with antigen. The curves of serum kinetic titration were processed on a computer by the special programme.
