The brain bioelectric activity changes in patients, suffering comatose state, may not be revealed by electroencephalography (EEG) data. This obstacle makes difficult to accomplish the patient functional state estimation and restricts the conducted treatment efficacy. That's why there was elaborated a quantitative diagnostic criterion of EEG--coefficient of a subcortex activation, permitting precisely and objectively to estimate the changes of functional state of the comatose patient brain.

We performed electroencephalography to 11 patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm in order to investigate the functional status of the brain. The relative potency (RP) of the main rhythms (alpha, beta, teta and delta) was increased, as well as the beta/alpha activation ratio. The increase of low-frequency rhythms (delta and teta) indicates the brain cortex hypoxia.

In 13 patients (7 men and 6 women) aged 19-44 yrs, 28 yrs at average, suffering symptoms of giddiness, nausea, vomiting, unconsciousness, the functional state of brain, using electroencephalography, was investigated. In 62% patients, according to the background electroencephalography data, the total power of low rhythms (teta + delta) had exceeded the total power of rapid rhythms (alfa + beta) in every 11 (68%) investigated brain dots of total 16. Quantitative diagnostic criterion for the brain commotion diagnosis confirmation was created, basing on the investigation results analysis performed: the total power of a slow rhythms exceeding over total power of rapid rhythms in majority (more than 68%) of the brain investigated region dots.

In 7 patients with postoperative purulent-septic complications the external respiration function (ERF) was studied. Preoperatively in them were observed significant changes of the ERF speed characteristics. The average volume speed in 25-75% interval (AVS 25-75) of the forced vital pulmonary capacity (FVPC) was lower than normal level by 43%, the extreme volume speed (EVS) of FVPC--by 49%, the moment volume speed in inspiration 50% of FVPC (EVS 50)--by 42%, EVS in expiration 75% of FVPC (MOS 75)--by 48%.

Bioelectrical activity of the brain was studied in 12 patients with atherosclerotic affection of extracranial branches of aortal arch, using electroencephalography method, tests with hyperventilation and nitroglycerin loading. It was established that in lowering of the blood flow along extracranial vessels the brain functional state is not always disturbing. In 50% of patients the hypoxia signs were not revealed.
